Hi mate,

Welcome (almost) to London! I live in Clapham and it's a great place to live - I describe it as a bit of a town outside of london because it has its own feel whilst only been 20 mins away on the northern line from central london.

Great social scene with loads of people 'new to london' moving here.

Rent can be expensive though - I'm paying £850 for a double ensuite room with my flat mate paying around £750 for his bit, so it adds up quickly. All bills are on top.

Other decent places to look are Wandsworth, Balham, Oval, Angel etc. All depends what you're looking for and where you need to be based.

You won't find reasonable prices anywhere within any kind of distance from Soho.

Bare in mind the Tube can be pretty expensive - travel can easily run into a couple hundred quid a month in London.

If you've got a job lined up, I'd shoot for somewhere that's close enough to walk/bike right off the bat.

Yeah, zone 1 ain't happening, nor probably is zone 2 outside of a few shitholes unless your stinking rich. If your looking to be somewhere with a bit of nightlife, either Clapham, East London (if your a bit of a hipster) or the area between Camden and Highgate.

Don't think you appreciate how big London is.

30 miles across by 25 North to South. Find out where you will be working and go from there

Central

Another option is to take very short term accom that's central, which is what I've done. You can get out to other places to explore easily as well as work possibly for a day or two. If you know where you'll be, its a joy to walk to work and back, skipping a packed tube in rush hour.

never never land

Wembley is another good option as it's 30/35 mins by tube into London and 20 mins to London Euston area.

Rent isn't cheap but isn't high either...good luck with your move and search xxx

. Select the areas near where you work and then search for rooms on either Gumtree or Spare room . It is worth paying extra to be near a tube station.
