Depends if you want to go posh or not. The new premier inn ruggt next to paddington (including cheaper hub room) is easy travel from theatre land.

To be honest we have always stayed somewhere a bit further out and tubed in. Novotel is worth looking at if you want to spend more money, has some central options but many years since i stayed at one to be specific

The Dilly is probably as close as youll get to Piccadilly. Lots of good hotels around there but depends on what you want to pay.

We love the royal horseguards hotel when we stay in London, it’s a very short walk to trafalgar sq and the weather end and a lovely hotel.

If you're around Picadilly go for dinner at Zedel Brasserie. Not crazily expensive at all, but it feels really special - huge ornate dining room, looks like Paris in the 30s (so fits the Moulin Rouge vibe), great little cocktail bar off the side of it for a drink before you eat, usually live jazz playing in the background of the dining room. Recommended it to loads of people, always a hit.
