"What's it like there? I'd like to give it a try. I hear there may have been some refurb going on." Hm, I have been following the updates about Rio's re-opening and wondering whether to attend there again. I still have not decided. In 2019 I attended frequently however the pandemic has had its effect and I am really not sure if I am ready to deal with the sexual harrassment and hostility that I would most likely be subjected to (I had experienced that nearly every time I went in 2019). It does have a few sauna and steam rooms, three jacuzzi areas, a cold pool and a lounge, the manager has been lovely and I really like that local people go there with their lotions and potions however too many of the men who go there create a hostile and threatening environment for naturists. Many of my friends did not come back after attending once and many women I've seen there wear swimsuits because I am guessing that they do not feel comfortable naked. Every time I went I always had an internal conflict of looking forward to the water treatments in clothes free environment on one hand and having to brace myself to deal with the harrassment and hostility on another hand. I have now found an alternative naturist place so at the moment I am really not sure about Rio's. Most of the men I know mentioned that it feels weird to them as well and many do not like it but at least some of the people I know who've been there are happy to attend in a group.

Most of the men I know mentioned that it feels weird to them as well and many do not like it but at least some of the people I know who've been there are happy to attend in a group. I’m wondering too. I have a group of non-men friends (women and non binary people) who are interested in going but I haven’t been since 2005 and the more recent tales of harassment/nasty atmosphere are worrying. I don’t know when might be best to go to reduce the chances of nastiness (couples night is obviously a no go for a group of women & nb people) " To be fair, the manager has been very supportive - after the first few occasions I went to speak to him to find out if I am missing something and I am expected to be some kind of bait there or something my ticket is cheaper because unspoken of "extras" are expected of me. He was adamant that it is primarily a naturist spa and that no one is allowed to harrass people, to tell him if anyone makes me feel uncomfortable and he will deal with them. I did have more certainty after that conversation and I have no doubt that there has been no change in terms of management support however I just don't know if I want to have to handle the potential agression at the moment especially after the tough year we've had and bearing in mind that a spa is a place where I want to go to relax, not to be on constant alert for harrassment and agression, having to defend myself. I would have thought that a woman who wants to enjoy water treatments naked would be made to feel welcome - is that too much to ask? Instead the effort by an overwhelming number of men seems to be focused on making women leave - or to at least force them to feel like they have to cover their bodies. I have only been on weekends so I don't know what other days are like. I used to go on Sunday afternoons. Funnily enough, the reason why I even came back was because the first time I went with a friend on Saturday afternoon and it was so pleasant and quiet, we had a wonderful time. My expectations were extremely low and I was very pleasantly surprised. This very first experience somehow imprinted itself on me I then kept expecting the same nice experience every time and it hasn't been a constant horror show by any means. The problem of course is the cummulative effect and the stressful prospect of not being able to fully relax. Any group outings on a weekend during the day have been great, harrassment was down to barest minimum then.

"Doesn't say prices on the website? Anyone know if its still the same or prices gone up?" Up until 10 days ago the prices quoted on the website were gbp 25 for single entrance for everyone (including ladies) or couples & higher if entrance was late on a Saturday. Prices have now disappeared so I m sure they will increase them

"I mostly agree with what you are saying but, the problem.isnt too many Men its that there are too many aggressive entitled men there and it has an affect on those of us who are polite and l9 e to socialise with everyone !! pr " _e libertine, what you wrote is actually very true - for example, having more men than women attend somewhere is not a problem in itself for me - it is the agressive entitled ones that are causing the problem. And yes, they also create a terrible atmosphere for everyone else - I think this is what my male friends meant when they called it weird and how they felt uncomfortable talking to anyone because they did not want to be mistaken for creeps.

"I love going to rios and have been many many times over the last 5 or 6 and have always felt that the overly aggressive guys ruin it for everyone not just the women who obviously i do concede near the brunt of their lack of manners and decency.. I've never been overly confident in situations and find that because their so fed up with the aggravation women and couples tend to be much more guarded about even making casual conversation in many cases which is a shame as to me its all part of the experience and the reason i love it there so much. That said i will be aiming to go as soon as i possibly can." Exactly, that is a big part of the issue and why the environment feels hostile and stressful! I actually have some useful advice on how to start a conversation which shows that you are not a creepy man - the best way is to make a general friendly comment about the environment and a bit of small talk in response to the person making eye contact with you. Do not make a comment about a person's body as a starter (doesn't matter if it is a compliment) and do not talk at them from behind or from the side when they can't see you (this is what the creeps do). One of the things I do myself is wear my pearls (even though I am naked, I still accessorise ). It is well visible and stands out. This is my way of giving a conversation starter to people who are OK - those that are decent people will not comment on my naked body, they will comment on my jewellery. This is how I can tell right away if someone is OK or to be avoided.

" Thanks for taking the time..i really appreciate the advice and will certainly be keeping your suggestions in mind for future use. I must admit i do tend to avoid the kind of body/sexual stuff you mentioned and look for signs that my attention is welcome before even considering flirting etc It's definitely not rocket science for anyone with half an ounce of sense and some decent manners. As i say its just a shame that some people have been so battered by unwanted and unpleasant behaviour that they blank all conversation which is obviously their choice and to be honest totally understandable. I love a bit of chat and have met so many really nice people in Rios even when in more cases than not its been completely non sexual in nature.

"Its a vivid account of what a woman experiences in Rios. I always thought that it must be uncomfortable for woman there with the examples of the harrassments that you have mentioned, its unfortunate that it happens like that. I like going to Rios, and of course I have enjoyed physical encounters with woman there over the years. A lot of men who go there feel entitled to have sexual or physical intercations with women there, it is uncomfortable for me even when I see it, and I always enjoy it when a woman sternly tells them NO. " I appreciate what you mean but of course it is not women's job to police men's behaviour - it's men's job to behave with basic human decency. I know that I personally will be fine because I have learned to be so outspoken but not every woman feels comfortable doing that - some will simply leave and never return instead. You have to have quite a lot of courage to confront people who are usually much bigger and stronger than you and who are already agressive so you never know if they will get violent or not. Even I feel reluctant to go back now, can't a woman just be naked in peace at a naturist's spa? Not too much to ask, surely On the other hand, the more decent people go the more influence they (hopefully) have on the atmosphere. It also helps when other men speak up in a non-violent manner and tell the wanky men that their behaviour is not OK. Actually, some do this non-verbally. The very first time I was there with a friend on a Saturday afternoon two years ago - this is when I had my first unexpectedly good impression of the place - it was quiet and very pleasant, there was one guy weirdly smirking at me when we came in but he was leaving so maybe he was having some facial spasms or something, I don't know. Anyway, the only incident that happened was when my friend and I got into one of the small jacuzzis and I was sitting on the side next to the steps. A man came in to this jacuzzi right after us and sat next to me on the steps. Before I even realised that this is really weird (I think I was talking to my friend), a man opposite stood up and indicated that he is leaving so the creepy man had to move and sit somewhere to the side because he had to move from the steps to let the person pass. Afterwards, my friend and I realised this. How helpful of this man who did not even know us but showed such kindness and community spirit.

"Bristolfeller, Exactly, it is meant to be a social place! Within reason of course because people are trying to relax in saunas and steam rooms so loud conversations in small spaces could be a bit much but in general a friendly and social atmosphere is what I really like as well. And absolutely, a modicum of sense is enough to know how to interact with people in an appropriate manner and not to approach with questions like this (literally first question out of nowhere when I am taking a shower): "Are you married?" or "Are you on your own?" or "Where are you from"? I kid you not, these are real examples. Or else I am sitting in a sauna or steam room with my face resting on my knees and hidden in my hands (I hate my cheeks getting red from heat) so obviously I am making no eye contact whatsoever (!) and someone either tries to talk loudly to me and address me somehow or worse, touch my arm or leg to get my attention - I am naked, my whole body language is clearly showing that I am not open to conversation, let alone anyone touching me in that moment, so what clues have they missed? Or else, lying in a sauna at the top, again my face hidden and there is no one else in the room expect one man who starts mumbling something about "massage". I am lying there, not responding with my face turned to the wall, waiting for him to go away because I do not want to deal with him and I am trying to focus on the sauna experience. And then I hear his voice getting closer which means he is literally moving closer to me with the idea of putting his bloody hands on my body - so then I have to get up sharply and defend myself. Hardly conducive to relaxation, this I have been followed and catcalled by a man watching me in the pool, my personal space invaded in the jacuzzis by men moving closer and crowding me, my body commented on when passing by the doorways, stared at very obviously etc etc. All this made me feel like I should cover myself. In a naturist's spa Of course, I refuse (I am rather stubborn by nature) which means that I have to be ready to defend myself from harrassment and intimidation at all times. And the worst of it is that I have seen plenty of men there who seemed pleasant and attractive but I could not manage to indicate to them that I would like to have some conversation with them because they were determinedly not looking at me much, clearly affected by the agressive behaviour of wanky men and clearly trying their best to distance themselves from them! Another fear is of course that if I speak to those who seem interesting to me, the creep brigade will either invade that conversation or will impose themselves on me afterwards because now they have "permission" as I have spoken to someone else. I just can't win this game! " You definitely been having serious issues there..

One of my friends is both a naturist and a swinger so theoretically Rio's would be great for her but she won't go back because a man there chose to assault her. I hadn't been assaulted at Rio's - not yet, that is Other than the garden variety nonconsensual touching of arm or leg to get my attention (in each case when I said loudly and clearly "do not touch me", the man in question expressed in one way or another that I am being rude )

"Looking forward to going back to Rios to relax and enjoy the facilities.Sadly there are far too many pushy , sense of entitlement guys there that spoil things for the genuine guys. I know some ladies that only go with a partner or male friend so that they are not constantly harassed.Hopefully this enforced lockdown with Covid19 will have helped improve some guys behaviour we live in hope." So much so that I'd imagine it's actually quite hard to relax and enjoy the experience just for what it should be. I'd imagine it must be very tempting to just give up on the place even though why should you. I hope things improve on reopening.. I'd be interested to hear what you think the behaviour on your visits should you decide to give it a go?

"I would love to go try rios out but but shy need someone to go with" You’re not gonna go to many places with that attitude. Just go. It’s pretty chilled and it’s not even mandatory to be naked if you’re not totally comfortable with it. Lots of people just go there to chill. Also, you’re a man, nobody will bother you. It can be intimidating for single women. But you’ll be totally fine!

"This Vaccination policy becomes an issue for many!!!" Hm, I doubt that. One of my favourite events is opening again and they are implementing NHS passes after some group discussions. There were some debates and someone mentioned that they won't be going. Regardless of this, the event is nearly sold out ahead of time so in reality it does not seem to be an issue. Just one example, of course.

It’s pretty chilled and it’s not even mandatory to be naked if you’re not totally comfortable with it. Lots of people just go there to chill. Thanks alot Also, you’re a man, nobody will bother you. It can be intimidating for single women. But you’ll be totally fine!"

"This Vaccination policy becomes an issue for many!!! Hm, I doubt that. One of my favourite events is opening again and they are implementing NHS passes after some group discussions. There were some debates and someone mentioned that they won't be going. Regardless of this, the event is nearly sold out ahead of time so in reality it does not seem to be an issue. Just one example, of course. " it's a problem for younger folks as we only recently were allowed to get vaccinated, my second shot isn't til the end of august and that was the earliest option, others have to wait til september for their second dose. i understand rio's precautions but i'd be happy to do a test or show proof of the first shot for entry, but needing both doses makes it impossible for myself and others to attend, when we had no choice in the matter

"I have my (seeming useless) vaccination card, a covid pass from the nhs app & I just shaved my balls this evening. I may give Rios a try for the first time tomorrow" The third as proof of having your jabs may prove awkward at airports!

"Messaged Rio's and can confirm: Following several emails similar to yours we have taken the decision to remove the requirement of two vaccines. Instead we will be recording temperatures of guests on arrival. Anyone with a temperature of 38 or higher will not be admitted." Taking a temperature is a very poor indicator regarding Covid!

" I tend to agree. Covid passports on the NHS app or, failing that, paper proof of double vaccination should be the way to go, for some time at least

"if you go to Rios on a Sat, as a couple, but before 6pm, how does it work? Do thye go round and ask all the singles to leave at like 5.30pm?" That is exactly what they do (but normally more like 18:00 - 18:15) - Some guys use this time to find a single lady to say "We're together" so they can stay, then the woman usually chills alone and the guy normally offers himself to every couple multiple times!

"hi Guys Could somebody please drop me a message explaining what i can expect here. I am planning on visiting but it will be my first time to one of these places. I want a relaxing evening , that is all. Very nervous though to be honest but super intrigued. Any messages from members to give me that boost would be a great help" As a single guy you'll be fine. Once you get there and are sat in a hot tub or sauna relaxing you'll wonder what all the worry was about

"I can't see what the fuss is unless nudity bothers you; wear trunks if you want. Many single women wear costumes." It will be a first time at this place. I didn't realise swimwear was optional. May be worth shorts for the first time?
