Watched that podcast on BBC last night and they had there pick of the best Premier captain.

Was shearer a bit biased, I'm a Liverpool supporter, and have to go with Keane as the greatest, the guy kept everyone focused including himself for years, winning countless trophys and love him or loath him, I think a majority would agree, or am I wrong?

Keanes standards are extremely high and lots of good footballers can't pass his requirements hence managment is difficult for him. Gerrard was my favourite captain

Some player but injured to much. And he should be doing time for attempted murder on Salah last year

Gerrard

Keane

Tony Adams

(Cant bring myself to include Terry. I hate him too much)

Never liked shearer I always thought he was an ignorant prick

Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira was the best captains simply because they took no bullshit from anyone and lead their teams with an iron fist

A slight lunge perhaps but he never even touched him

Understandable that his injuries will always go against him but in terms of sheer importance to a team, on and off the pitch, his leadership is undisputed. Along with universal respect I'd say; hard to say that about any player let alone a captain!

Plus he had the big boots of the Ireland's own Dunney Monster to fill

Anybody being reasonably honest with themselves would have keane as there captain look at what he won with united he was the driving force in that team .

Two things:

1. This was premier league captains

2. You obviously didn’t watch the 2005 final, any Liverpool fan knows that it was Hamann that won the final not Gerrard.

A captain should lead and inspire, Stevie was the best!

If it goes on honours then it's Terry or Keane.

If Gerrard won what either of those won then there wouldnt even be a thread to debate!!

Goddam Vinny K and his 40 yard pot luck

The cult of Gerrard, magnificent player, terrible captain. Self centered ego driven, always about him never about the team.

Hamann changed the game in 2005 go back and watch it, masterstroke by Rafa!

Most of those captains had great players around them so winning became that bit easier. Those players wanted to win anyhow alebit a good captain is key influecing a dressing room. All those mentioned were excellent leaders on the pitch...off the pitch certaintly Terry had issues and Keane had a few too. The other thing is that the Terrys,Keanes and Gerrards were very loyal players to their clubs. Each dragged their team out of the shit on occassion too.Its hard to say who the best was...they were the best for their club at the time and thats all they could do.I cant imagine Terry bossing players around Liverpool or Keane going to chelsea as captain. So each had grown up in their club and embodied all of what was good about that club.....except Chelsea...there is nothing good about that club!!!

Hamann only went on cos Finnan was injured.

In fairness Didi should have started!

Hero of the game was Carragher really!

Seen the game a thousand times at this stage

1. Fair point but still an unbelievable premier league captain. Might not have the honours to back it up but it's not really his fault he played in so many mediocre teams

2. And dont blame it on Hamman, dont blame it on Biscan, dont blame it on Finnan.. blame it on Traore. . He just cant, he just cant, he just cant control his feet

How the fook does any team win a champions league with djimi Traore in it. Rafa deserved a knighthood for that

From a Sunday league footballers perspective Keane would have been the Captain to play under. You know he'd bollox you if you didn't try your best but would also have your back!

Rafa tried to copy PSV's approach in the first leg of the Semi Finals where they beat AC 3-1.

However taking Didi out to accommodate Kewell left a massive hole in front of the defence and thats where Kaka basically ran riot for 45 minutes

Milan were magnificent but ran out of steam!

The rest was LFC history
