If there are any doctors or nurses on here or anyone who works in public health can you please help me i am an agency care assistant at the minute i just work between 2 nursing homes i cant afford not to work as i only have my wage my question is if i am at work and it turns out one of my patients has the coronavirus what do i do do i have to stay there or can i go home i have to ise public transport to get to and from places as i dont drive have asked my agency for advice but they are worse than useless just want to do the right thing i dont want to be responsible for someones death

Can you not get advise from the places of work surly them have concerns set in place for the workers regardless if agency or not

If you are engaged in close contact exposure with a suspect case, you should be wearing long sleeved plastic gown. Ffp3 mask. Gloves. Eye glasses or full face shield. Your patient should have a paper face mask on themselves, even on oxygen therapy place paper mask on over O2 mask.

Full methodical doffing of all the ppe should be carried out in a separate area and full hand wash followed by alcohol sanitizer used. All ppe should be bagged in healthcare risk bags and disposed of correctly.

Please refer to your employer though as they are responsible for your health safety and welfare.

Where I work we have been told we have to stay if any patient test's positive. You can't decide to go home yourself as you won't be paid but it's up to your work place if they pay you if you start showing symptoms and they tell you to self isolate. The patient should be in isolation and you should be wearing full ppe. If possible change out of the clothe's you are wearing before going on public transport and obviously do full hand santizing

Each home should have told to you their contingency plan. Even if you are agency you still need to know. Some homes are trying to get people to stay others you can go home as long as you self isolate. Protective clothing is even more important now and needs to be worn. Stay safe and just do all you can to protect yourself. Hopefully as most care homes now have restrictions on place so no visitors allowed they will not be as high a risk for infection as long as everyone else follows guidelines in place.
