Yes! Drastic measures for drastic times.

Get serious lockdown and that means it won't spread.

Give a chance for any sufferers to get well and then "normality" resumes, somewhat.

I think you should get plenty of toilet paper or you'll end up using kitchen roll soon, if you are lucky to get it.

I think it will on Monday cant risk the Patricks day rush to the pubs. Lots of pubs and resturants are taking it apon themselves to close anyway. Tough times need tough actions.

Lockdown isn't going to nip anything in the bud ffs, prepare for another 6 week with no public gatherings and that's a minimum, if you want to stop the spread that's a minimum, stopping flights/ferry landings would be an unreal start too..

But the virus is on the island so it's now personal choice how you wish to either spread it or cope with it

Think leaving it up to personal choice is bot working... have you seen the videos and pics from templebar tonight... as always ejits need to have it forced on them coz they can't take advice thats being given.

Yes I think it should. Italy did not take it seriously enough at first, people continued to go out meet up etc and look what is happening over there. We need to to do everything we can to try to contain it. It realy will not kill people to stay in as much as possible untill this passes

But that's their choice, if all of those in the vids (I've seen them), live alone and can work from home, they probably don't see anything wrong.

On that point, with everyone locked down, how long until the cabin fever sets in? We're a nation especially in rural areas where the pub is the focal point of the community

Time will tell and common sense will prevail i would hope. We're in this for the long run and life will need to be seriously altered so that we all can get back to a 'normal' life afterwards

Cabin fever should be the least of anyone's problems in all honesty. If Irish people can't stay out of the pub for 14 day's there is seriously something wrong.

I'd fully agree mate, hitting pubs in a city like Dublin today is madness, but as I'm in the North and the DUP ha now want to follow science - only British science, I'm free to hit the pub, but I live in the middle of nowhere and decided at 930 I'd go for a few because I knew there'd be no more than 5 people in, there were 3.

And this is my point, if I lived in a city I'd 100% be backing total lockdown but in the country you have to allow for farmers being out feeding livestock, folks who already have social separation every day of their lives frequenting small gatherings etc

It's a hard one to answer

The supermarket panicking is beyond belief but is human nature as is being witnessed throughout Europe currently, good country folk know they can get their food local and its usually better anywhere (though we all still need essentials which we have come to rely on from supermarkets)

Let's be proactive and find solutions... And put in practice. I hope they will come with a good system to control people's shopping for the next month, so people don't over buy stuff and we can have supply to everyone possible...

They lock down the country and stop people going out. But we all need to eat. So they keep Tesco open. But Tesco staff refuse to go to work or they get the bug you then get it of your tinned food they coughing on.

Or the police get the bug doctors nurses hospital cleaner the cook's. Nursing home staff have to look after the people. I was a care worker I had to see 12 to 14 people a day. And if I had the bug they get it. So then what

Well if we stop all transport coming in and out of the country we will have the virus completely contained then it will only be a matter of time for this to leave our system and perhaps we can enjoy some kind of summer of course we don't have full control of the island because of the North but if that gobshite Boris Johnson pulled his thumb out of his ass and close down the country allowing the North to do the same then we will be golden but I don't think a full lockdown should happen maybe the cities limerick, Cork, Dublin etc for at least two weeks and see how things are after that but I will say this the panic buying seriously needs to stop its put a strict cap on things like think of those who can't get to the shops that often

It’s a sad day for the country as a whole. The virus is here!! So the best thing to do is for everyone to look out for everyone else, You will always get a few gobshites that either don’t care about themselves or there immediate family. I for one won’t be meeting on fab or going places with large social gatherings til this thing has passed. A ride is a ride!! but a family members/ friends health is far more important We’ll to me anyway and we all know how much I like riding!! .

Take the pro cautions seriously guys !

Yes the whole country should go into full lockdown until we can get a hold on this virus. The pubs will be made shut down next but its totally irresponsible of them to be opening in the first place and the complete opposite of what everyone else is trying to do. There's no point in most ppl isolating we need everyone to do it except essential personnel. I'm getting pissed if with it already and it's only the wknd still.

Public transport loadings have dropped off by about 50% since last week. Trains and Trams certsinly.

Some commercial bus operators are suspending services under the guise of protecting public health but the reality is they aren't making money carting around fresh air so pulling the plug until the end of March.

I say you'll have no problem " social distancing" on the train / tram on Monday.

In Italy when they had a lockdown in the north and said it would happen in 12 hours, all the rats jumped ship, went south and across borders taking their infected bodies with them . If the south announces lockdown , the us up north should stop the zombies heading north, call Brad Pitt...... block all the roads , blow all the bridges, ban sales of Guinness ( cos the dirty southerners wud have touched all those cans), . That should do it

I seriously worry about the coming weeks for the uk and north or Ireland. Having lack luster leadership who stuck their heads in the sand instead of taking immediate proactive action to flatten the curve will have serious consequences. So Sad
