and if that is what it is then so be it. I have a vulnerable father in law to look after so im not risking anything. our gym is closed. the kids are off school. their clubs are closed. Considering what my father in law went through in the war this is pittance

Temporary measure for greater good. I'll be staying inside as much as possible and enjoying time with kids. They're the ones who need reassurance and their parents to model reaction to this. My focus anyway..

its coming. U have sport cancelled. Soon enough you'll see gyms closing, pubs closing, no games to watch or go too. U wont be able to travel in or out of the country. Will be terrible. Those parties that I'm on about, on tonight. That's a publicans livelihood. They wont turn away money.

only way avoid this is to stop travel in and out of country and treat what u already have here. I'm due to go too aintree races in 2 weeks. A group of 40. I have no doubt races will be cancelled but if flights are running most in the group will go.

Asswipes that choose to put themselves in that situation shouldn’t be allowed back into the country until they’ve completed quarantine. It’s time for people to stop being selfish pricks and listen to professional advice.

Limit your contact with the general public as much as you can. It’s very simple. Life will go on but in smaller, family groups

Anyone in healthcare will have to continue going to work regardless what happen's,unless they contract it themselve's. Have been avoiding going anywhere else as much as possible. I do think the Country will go on full lock down, people will not be able to go out. If it's a few week's of that to save other's it is no big deal. We just have to get on with it.

It has beem discussed and govt have issued travel warnings for spain and italy. There will be more.

I do think its time for a travel ban in general but its a pretty complex action to take. No point issuong a travel ban if people are stil walking into pubs that are black with people though is there

People's attitude will change when they realise that not modifying their behaviour now will only prolong the whole thing. Once that message kicks in they'll change.

That message really needs to kick in as soon as possible.

Which will mean that the government will have to enforce a lockdown. The more people opt to ignore the advice, the quicker that will happen.

Anyone stepping foot in a crowded pub needs to take a long hard look at themselves

You don't have to stay indoors. You're just being asked to limit your social interactions.

It'll be interesting to see what's figures come out over the next few days to see if these measures are working or not. I do think it's ridiclous ppl flocking to the pubs. I mean they are doing exactly what they've been asked not to do and its irresponsible of them same as all those ppl that went to the races. That's just my opinion. I'm doing my bit to keep away from others as much as possible and when i have to be with other just keeping my distance as much as possible.

I think you're missing the point, probably deliberately.

People were asked to restrict their social interactions.

As well as that.. Cancellation of all mass gatherings of over 100 indoors and 500 outdoors was recommended.

That doesn't for one moment suggest that people are somehow magically safe in a crowd of less than 100 and that you should only restrict your social interactions where there's more than 100 people.

I see Tipp County board didn't get the memo either, bringing the lads off to a training camp in Spain, thereby requiring that they put their lives, and that of their families, on hold for two weeks when they have to self isolate on return. Madness and selfish on the part of the county board.

you're not allowed anywhere realistically. What's the main social interaction for people? The pub, but most people are not in the pub every day of the week. People need to have some enjoyment in life or else they craic up. I was in a restaurant this morning for breakfast. Place was packed.

There are seven days of being infectious.

If you cough today dont meet anyone, simple.

If you havent coughed today and have to/want to meet one person, then do it outside in the wind, and keep a bit of distance.

When you get home, go in the door, go to the bathroom, wash your hands nice and good, use a bit of tissue to turn off the tap. Go to bedroom, get changed, then go wash your hands again, nice wash. Turn off tap with tissue, pick up cleaner and wipe down any surfaces you breathed on/touched. then just chill and relax.

Ireland is going the same way as the UK, resources are being made available to keep helping people, hotels if needed, the army can help trace and swab people.

Obviously going to large group meetings in enclosed space is just a bit too much for now.

These measures won't have any effect on the figures coming out over the next two weeks. They will only possibly have an effect on the figures coming out in the period after that.

Up to two weeks incubation, therefore the figures appearing in the next two weeks are mostly people who were infected before now.

in fairness things have kicked in and got alot worse since tipp went to Spain but I agree they shouldn't have went. On your first point, sure just go along then and cancel everything for the next few months and live like a hermit. We will see how many could actually do that without going mad.

"So lads who look forward to going to a pub for a few pints on the weekend, will u still go?

Nope, I'm limiting my social interactions like we've all been asked to do. limit, not stop altogether. Didnt they advise against social gatherings indoors of 100 people. Sure a normal sat night in my area u wouldn't have near 100 in a pub.

I think you're missing the point, probably deliberately.

People were asked to restrict their social interactions.

There's a vast swathe of middle ground between carrying on as normal and living like a hermit. The sooner we all cop on to this the less time this crisis will last.

The longer you keep living as normal and going to the pub the longer the crisis will last.

The longer the crisis lasts the more people will die.

It's a simple enough theory. The virus is here and it's going to spread. We just need to limit it as much as possible.

well, what's your normal week? I dont stir much during the week, I'm working, I usually train kids and matches with kids in gaa and soccer. That's cancelled for at least 2 weeks. On weekends when I'm off I head out with the lads for a few drinks, might go to a restaurant for a meal, go to games in sport, they're my enjoyments. I hate sitting in watching hours and hours of endless tv. I'd go for a walk at times but that's only for an hour or so. Peoples enjoyments are been stopped and it's going to get worse.

my point Is people will always do things they enjoy or else they'll go insane. As my point above says, try telling teenagers they cant go out with their friends and have to stay indoors for the foreseeable future. Also the pub situation with parties etc. Pubs ain't gonna stop them as they'll loose business and people will continue too go as long as they stay open.

If you aren’t into watching tv, take the opportunity to use the vast resource that is the internet to learn something new. Be proactive, put a plan in place now and stop panicking.

Spain are considering introducing from 9am monday that you only leave the house too go to work, the shop or a medical appointment. A woman in Ireland said we should do the same. She obviously doesn't go outside of the house much.

firstlyvyou have personal responsibility for your own health, secondly for your family, extended family, friends & colleagues.

could you live with yourself if you thought you brought the virus into your family.

over the period I do intend supporting local businesses, food outlets & pubs, but I will be making sure I can socially isolate the recommended distance...its my life & their lively hood...when this is all over I want my local pub to be still in business & my family alive.

Common Sense...limit the interactions & think safe.

I find you attitude staggering. I can no longer visit my mother, she has cancer and her future is bleak. My profession means that I am at the hard edge of this pandemic, so I cannot visit her, I cannot take her to her appointments, I cannot make the most of whatever time she has left. These are the sacrifices I will make because I will not put her at risk. So whenever you're feeling a little bored because you can't go to the pub, sit back, take a breath and think about just how fucking childish that is

everyone can go to the pub or any social gatherings they want too. Its their choice whether they do or dont. I know of stags, hens, partys etc all on this weekend, all going ahead. As I said already, people will only stop doing the things they enjoy if they're stopped all together.

If that's the case send an email to the government telling them to close everything indefinitely. Anything that involves any type of social gathering.

My profession means that I am at the hard edge of this pandemic, so I cannot visit her, I cannot take her to her appointments, I cannot make the most of whatever time she has left. These are the sacrifices I will make because I will not put her at risk. So whenever you're feeling a little bored because you can't go to the pub, sit back, take a breath and think about just how fucking childish that iseveryone can go to the pub or any social gatherings they want too. Its their choice whether they do or dont. I know of stags, hens, partys etc all on this weekend, all going ahead. As I said already, people will only stop doing the things they enjoy if they're stopped all together.

And they're selfish twatsIf that's the case send an email to the government telling them to close everything indefinitely. Anything that involves any type of social gathering.

Thats coming, just like Italy. But anyone with an ounce of social conscience should be doing what the can now"

u will socialise the minute you step out the door, walk, you'll meet people stop for a chat, go to shop you'll meet people etc. U cant expect people to stay inside 24/7. I put up a post a while ago that spain want to introduce a plan to only leave house 2 go 2 work, medical appointment or shop. That could last months and months. People won't be dying from just the virus. They'd also be dying from insanity.

Well we do have a slight advantage over Europe we are an island if government cancels all transport coming in or out of the country we will have this virus completely contained then it will be only a matter of time for this to be out of our systems UK should be doing the same thing but then you look at who's running things there

You know every thing and broke the internet

Can u take the dont be off ur user name because u are being really silly its quiet simple to follow the advice

Don't congregate in groups of more than 100 indoors and five hundred outdoors and if u have keep a space of 2metres between u and others

Wash hands regularly in warm water with soap

No gives a shite if u go off ur head its better than being told no people are allowed on the streets un less u have a garda pass

Its simple we locked up for foot and mouth and not only limited the damage but we recovered faster

We can do this to by following simple rules

Because they’re hoping people won’t be stupid. Clearly that’s not the case though.

Those of us that give a shit about others are limiting our social contact. People like you are the reason that there will be a lockdown.

Look I go to numerous houses including nursing homes, before I arrive I ring and tell them my immune system is low due to medications I take and I expect to keep reasonable distance while i am in their home. I will also need to wash my hands on arrival and before leaving once back in my van I sanitize my hands with alcohol hand cream.

Taking these precaution is the only way i could sleep at night knowing i tried to prevent the spread, if and when the direction comes to stop all but essential emergency work do and suffer the losses its a small price to pay to protect myself my family and my community

That's so sad but so good of you to not put your mother at more risk I hope this passes soon and you both can be together again.

See this is the reason people need to start copping on but sadly I don't believe it will happen.

I'd say from next week you won't have a pub to go to. It's not much to ask . Stay in and stay safe. Go for a walk or a run if you need to get out of the house. Staying in can save lives. It's a no brainer really.

#yacantfixstupid tell that to the hundreds out in bars and restaurants now. People will only take notice if there is a lockdown placed upon them.

I don't need to tell anyone anything. Be it on their own backs. I have an 18yr old here who turned down two parties ...why? Because he's not stupid. my 23 yr old declined too

Funny isn't it that a child gets their morals and sence of respect moulded by their parents "

its only right if a parent asks a child something, that they do it. I decided not to go too party but passed by a while ago and pubs are black.

France has shut down now, face the reality and act like an adult. It's not the time to have tantrums. Pubs will be closed next and sooner than you expect. everything could be closed for months. "

So? Embrace it, you've no choice.

We're going to stay in because we will be out enough because of work, no point in endangering family and friends who have underlying health issues. Socialising or swinging is not worth their health. This is only a fun past time when it suits. Not a necessity

there's nothing I enjoy more than going to my local for a few pints on a Saturday night but it comes a distant second to my health and the health of my loved ones. I think people need to cop on and realise that a few drinks tonight could have devastating consequences in the future. A few weeks or months without socialising might seem like an eternity but it's for the good of our health and our families health

"Will u stay in as much as possible or will u continue to live your life as normal?"

I will live as normal but I'll be far from civilisation for all week

Later, Ill be keeping distance from crowd. And definitely I wouldnt stay inside. I have plenty to do: gardening, reading books under the old oak tree, watching birds at 5am, and live full life!

as varadker was saying this morning, indoor gatherings of less than 100. People ain't listening but this less then 100 is bullshit. Its gatherings of any number full stop. People struggle to stay in and the only way they will is if everything is shut, any type of gathering spot.

Remember everyone goes to shopping between 11:30 to 17:00... Just void going anywhere between those times... I like going to supermarket at 20:00 or 09:00am... Almost empty...

Thank you . It was the hardest decision ever to close it

But this virus is serious and lots still haven't grasped that fact. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can open again.

Absolutely. Im staying off fb etc because if i see any more ignorant comments i think my head will explode. For what its worth it was a good decision you made and hopefully with pubs etc following suit this can all be contained and we will all be able to get back to normality in the coming weeks xx

Restaurants pubs etc may aswell close. Put it this way, if people take heed of the warnings, avoid gatherings then there will be fuck all people in these places anyway so they will do nothing.
