The little things

Things have gotten real and a lot of people are feeling more than a little anxious, myself included. So I thought a little positivity on the forum might be nice!

Tell me about the little things that make you happy. For me, it's an iced caramel machiato, when my parking space is free, and when my baby gives me a kiss without me having to beg and nag her for it. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

Your turn!

Nice thread.

For me it was a nice hot bath last night. Just being able to lay there for a period relaxing as opposed to rushing about doing sh*t.

The Road to Nowhere

Yesterday, the shit hit the fan in work (like most places I'd imagine) and it was just ridiculous. I left work drained, exhausted, anxious & overwhelmed. Walked into my sisters & the 2 year old nephew screamed my name, ran at me and gave me the biggest cuddle. Scooped him up, had a lil cry, he wiped my tears then punched me.

It was just a lovely, real moment that made me laugh after a shit show of a day

Every day when I get home from work and take my dog to the mountain, her sheer joy at the prospect makes me smile and the fresh air and exercise helps me shake off the stress of the day

I stayed at my brothers last weekend and while sitting alone watching TV and my nephew walks in and snuggled in next to me to drink his bottle before bed.

Birthday cake at 1am in work when thought had escaped it lol.

But the little things are definitely when someone pays a compliment. Or texts to ask how I'm doing.

I'm a hugger and can't beat a good hug that literally makes you feel like you in the safest place in the world.

East / North, Cork

Lighting a fire on a chilly evening and turning off the TV.

That moment of serenity when I realise all the kids are properly and happily asleep upstairs.

When mrs filthy KNOWS that I just had a dirty idea before I even open my mouth.

Unexpectedly passing the NCT and knowing I can relax for another year

Was up in my mam and dad's earlier and my sister and brother were there also.

All 5 of us together having a laugh.

I took a moment to enjoy and appreciate it.

Putting on a brand new pair of socks for the first time, getting in to a freshly made bed after a shower, and the first sip of an ice cold beer on a particularly hot and dusty day.

Stupid messages from certain people that make me smile during shit days.

Seeing my nephews and neices messing around with my mum.

Getting overly engaged in a video game.... remembering that I am actually a fully functioningish adult...and laughing at myself

Of course all the lovely moments with the kids etc.

But, we do a weekly date night (we joined fab on a date night hence the name).

Once kids are in bed, it involves wine, YouTube playlist on shuffle and either a simple chat, charades or trivial pursuit....sounds boring but we look forward to it every week and we have the craic.

I think that sounds lovely. Can't bear board games or puzzles tbh. I love those nights.

Sticking to Fab, as it's usually the bad stuff that gets highlighted, I like that you can't type 'heteexible' without getting that emoji in the middle.

It's not much I know but it makes me smile

When all the kittens clamber onto me in a big kitten stack, the top one nestled under my chin...their rhythmic purring and gentle podding soothes and balances me.

Incidentally this almost always happens just before I need to get up and do something

Omg I fully get this. Sometimes my cat slips up under my t-shirt at night and snuggles into my boobs and I can feel her purring against my chest and it's the most soothing thing in the world.

Limerick

The little gestures that the kids make, like opening the cupboard door this morning and a plate of cookies are sitting there (baked last night by our daughter) with a message to help ourselves, followed by a smiley face. Or the night that the younger girl left her hot water bottle in our bed without saying anything, because I mentioned that I was cold. Those 2 moments made me very proud!

Yep! taking my dogs up the mountain, does it for me too. Fresh air and their unbridled joy! And washing my windows today in the sunshine made me happy.

I couldn't sleep this morning so after I went to the shops and panic buying.

I went up the glen walk and enjoyed the time .

It was cold wet but good walking boots and waterproofs I was fine.

I even had a wee Chelsea bun sitting on a log at around 8 o'clock this morning

Galway

Then my wife comes home after work and dose here makeup removal routine and tells me how the day went and then snuggles beside me for sleep.

Then kids hugs me and gives me kiss for no reason.

And a coup of coffee and a Snickers bar.

Stay safe.

The delight on the face of the big hairy one when I arrive home, her jumping around and nipping and licking me, is just a heartwarming thing.

Then I give her a kiss and pet the dog too

Also love this (the mountain with the dog thing, not the window washing because - eugh). Will be doing lots of hikes while we're all on lock down. It sounds cheesy as fuck but sometimes there's nothing better for your head and heart than being out in nature.
