Two things people don't realize- China is on a lockdown which means it's not producing goods. Soon local factories will start running out of parts and different components which are supposed to be coming from China. One may not get the virus, may get It, but not suffer much or any harm from It, but it will majorly affect global economy.

Second thing- telling people to self quarantine - really? Fucking really? Yes, I can see how everyone who's getting paid hourly rate, coming back from holidays flat broke will just go on and self quarantine with no questions asked... It's like giving toddler a razor blade and telling them to be careful with it.

Seen on the BBC the NHS has two nurses sitting beind a wooden fence, they come out with a bit of paper telling you to stay in your car and hand you stuff through the window to do the swabs yourself, then tell you to fuck off home.

Its too dangerous for them to let you in the hospital to do the swab, but sure its grand to let you drive home on your own and stop off at the petrol station on the way.

Yep, the two main suppliers I use for work issued a notice saying that as a sizeable proportion of their goods come from China and with China being in lockdown there will be a lot of stock levels they won't be able to replace for a while but that they would give updates periodically.

I've already seen a number of sales being lost due to both suppliers being out of stock on various items.

I'll be ok as it has only affected some sales but overall it would be a small fraction of usual business.

As you pointed out though it will hit other businesses and people a lot harder in the pocket.

HSE says you should stick a notice on your front door "I have coronavirus" so people leave you alone, and just stay at home and take care of yourself.

Meanwhile, the WHO has said any country could wipe the virus out if they were aggressive. Our approach does not seem to be aggressive.

Spanish flu in 1918 - 1920 infected 27% of world population with 50 to 100 million deaths when world population was about 1.9 billion and international travel was way lower than current levels. The mortality rate of Corona is currently about 3%. So could kill 30,000 in Ireland alone. Don’t forget nobody has immunity and there is no vaccine yet!! Just saying!

The paper found that the fatality rate gradually increases with age. For example, there were no deaths among children aged nine or younger while it stood at 0.2 percent for people aged between 10 and 39. It increased to 3.6 percent in the 60-69 age bracket before rising to 8 percent among those aged 70 to 79 and 14.8 percent among people in their 80s or older.

Now... here's a wee conspiracy theory - maybe it was deliberate?

China had one child policy for as long as everyone can remember, so now all them single children grew up and economy has to carry their substantially bigger, retired families.. big hole in the budget, not enough tax paid by fewer younger people to cover it. If only there was a way to get rid of older people quicker... hmmm..

Yeah but it's China, they have commited genocide on their own people before, if they wanted to kill off a large percentage of their population, they'd just gather them up and shoot them or put them into some camps. I doubt they would go to the effort of creating a virus. Easier to just round them up and kill them off. General Mao killed 50 million people after all.

And also on the flip side people are living longer. The birth rates are down right across the world save for a handful of countries so there isnt enough of a "young" population to sustain a growing "elderly" one. now as with all conspiracy theories you take them with a pinch of salt but some that were very much out there as regards theories have been proven true so who the hell knows. Also i did see that a company ran a demo last year for virus X to see how it would go and it was on the scale of the spanish flu. Now again how true that is i dont know
