Well be yourself and have people quote you on here saying "You come out with a load of shit", "Youre an idiot"

Or keep your head in and be part of the crowd.

Ireland isnt a country for being yourself, its a country for supporting the same football team as your friends, the same rugby team, holidaying in the same places as your friends, drinking the same thing in the pub, listening to the same music, and going to the same concerts, and watching the same things on netflix.

Nope I'm still just me. Like it or lump it basically I don't pretend to be anything else but me. Don't see the point.

After years of being invisible I tried to be someone else and failed miserable. Then I realised I wasn't really invisible. I just thought I was. Back to being me with that knowledge in my back pocket and it's much better.

Gonna have to beg to differ with you on this one pal.

I support the Bohs, all my mates were Rovers fans but my older brother said we lived on the northside and we had to support a northside team.

Still can't fully understand rugby, so if it bounces inside the line and your in your own half, defending, it's your line out, but the opposite if you're attacking?

We work abroad alot, myself since 2003, I left Ireland to work abroad in the boom times, who the fuck does that???

As mentioned, I travel alot with work, family comes along to the new and interesting places regularly, so we tend to holiday at home, with friends and family.

Worked in Gibraltar a long long time ago now, a litre bottle of Jameson whisky was about £3.50p, so we'd splash out and buy 20 year old that or 18 year old this, XO brandys, top shelf russian vodkas with the silver fish on the front for about £11/12 a litre, unfortunately now we have expensive taste when it comes to booze.

Not sure many people still listen to Punk and New Wave these days, but that's what I'm listening to, at the moment, will change again in a few weeks.

Last gig I went to was a Randy Newman concert in Vicar street, if I'm perfectly honest, I had to Google him to even know who he was. (Toy Story theme tune, You gotta a friend in me) I was given the tickets by a family member who had won them in a raffle at their tennis club.

As for Netflix, not sure what everyone else is watching but I just finished Manhunt, about the Unabomber, love a bit of true crime me

How many of your Irish friends would say "I'm off to the pub for a heino or two to watch the rugby match, See you down there", or would most of your friends who you go out with be more into football?

My point is, its rare to meet a rugby supporter where most of his friends are not rugby supporters too, most will support the same team with only one or two exceptions.

You will likely never encounter a group where there interests vary more than a few degrees in Ireland. You wont come across a group where one guy knows nothing about rugby or soccer but knows everything about motocross, the other knows kickboxing, the other knows bmxing.

The further you get away from well known mainstream music, the more likely you will base your friends around that music. Like all the goths hanging out together, all the blur/oasis type people together etc.

This isnt unique to ireland except in countries with larger populations they grow out of it, as they can have "kickboxing friends", and "marylin manson friends" and dont have to cling onto one group, thus their friends end up with a more diverse group of interests than in Ireland.

Thats my view of ireland, and its why I hear over and over from adults in Ireland that its impossible to make friends. They have to find a group to fit into. Making friends as an adult in Ireland is probably one of the hardest places I have ever been to make them.

On a similar note, I always liked this quote but don't know who said it:

"Don't be someone you're not to get people to like you. Be yourself and the right people will love you."
