I’m sure most of us have heard the old saying “build a bridge and get over it”..... well, thats what the British prime minister wants us to do with his plans to build a £50 billion bridge between Northern Ireland and Scotland.

What are your thoughts?

Would you use it?

Do you think it’s viable?

It could be viable as long as it doesn’t need to be closed for every gale of wind so if ferries are shut the bridge could remain open.

I would drive across out of pure curiosity.

The numbers have differed from around 15 billion to 50 billion. While I think it would be an awesome thing that I would use regularly, I also think it would hurt the shipping industry and for that reason I wonder how viable and likely a plan it could be.

There are more important issues in Ireland at the moment. Whether it could be viable or something useful is anyones guess. I just dont see the point in another money pit when the money is needed elsewhere.

I did my thesis on the viability of that, well in terms of Railway. It's a waste of time and resources as the nearest point on both side of the water would leave you in the back arse of nowhere, plus on the Scottish side it's quite a mountainous region so it would be even more difficult to build a road system or a Railway around there. But sure, of auld Boris wants to build it, let them build it and waste their 50 Billion quid.

Wanted it for years

The ferry is so slow and makes me feel sick

And I’m tired of flying all the time

Although I’d prefer it further down from Scotland and with a fast train

I think boris is not the man to decide building bridges to Ireland surely the people of Ireland and Scotland to get the work the infrastructure the money to build it and the pay packets and as the lady above said it should be the middle of Ireland so all sides of Ireland can embrace the bridge

The problem is the trench in the sea between Ireland and Britain

This trench is very deep and full of ammunition dumped there since the second world war including various gasses.

I can't see them being able to build in this trench
