Makes sense if the person had unprotected sex with you then they have had with others.

Take your sexual health serious darling and get checked even if you use condoms with every partner.

Everyone who is sexually active should be getting regularly tested, even if using condoms, several STIs are transmitted by skin to skin contact, plus many are also transmitted via oral sex.

Condoms reduce risk, they don't eliminate it.

It takes 6 months to get an all clear.

Some of the virus you can get are undetectable for months, in rare cases 5 months or more which means the 6 month test is the one that gives you an all clear.

Just remember any test just says "You were clear 7 months ago of everything". If you want a full total all clear then you need to abstain from sex, tattoos, and any risky business for 6 months, then get tested and then the test will be "youre clear now".

Anyone who is sexually active nowadays should go for regular STI testing. Please take responsibility for your own health and the health and well-being of the people who you meet up with for sex. I go for testing every three months, and more often If I've been especially naughty.

It's also a really good idea for anyone who has multiple sexual partners to get the hepatitis b vaccination.

6 month's was outdated a long time ago..12 week's is when you will get a conclusive result for hiv and syphilis. Chlymydia and gonnorhea would be accurate now.If you realy can't wait, get tested now and it will give you a very good idea but you will need to retest at 12 week's for all clear. Ring your local Gum clinic and they will advise you. Try not too worry too much look up the statistic's for one time unprotected sex,but protect yourself going forward.

I would suggest that you contact anyone else you've been with at the same time or after this person to also get tested. They may not be affected but better to be safe than sorry.

6 months is not outdated. You have to test at 3 weeks, 3 months and 6 months.

The most expensive test which is not carried out by an std clinic and is reserved for people who were stabbed with a syringe etc, can detect in 4 weeks in most BUT NOT ALL. Its a very expensive test, and it will need to be repeated at 3 months and 6 months.

The 4th gen test looks for antibodies and antigens in the body. It can detect them in 2 to 6 weeks in most BUT NOT ALL. It needs to be repeated at 3 and 6 months.

The most basic test, which is the one probably carried out by the std clinic is detectable in people from 3-12 weeks, I assume this is where you got the 12 weeks from. However like the others it is most BUT NOT ALL. Only 97% of people will be detectable at 12 weeks, 3% of people will not.

They know for a fact that in 1-3% of cases people might not detect or fight the virus. This delays their antibody production. They know in a small number of cases that the virus does not multiply as quickly, so can not be detected in the blood until it does.

They know that no one ever, has made it to 6 months without it being detectable. Hence you get the fully all clear at 6 months. Its impossible to not have an immune response by that time or the virus to have multipled enough to be found in your blood.

As far as I know all free services do the most basic one that is 12 weeks for 97% of people but requires a re-test at 3 months and 6 months.

Only a cancer patient or someone with no immune system would possibly need to test out to 6 month's. Every clinic in Ireland has 12 week's as a conclusive result. This is with a 3rd generation test which is the most widely used test still. The company's that make these test's stating 12 week's could not do so if they were not highly accurate based on year's of trials and update's. If it's a 4th/5th generation test it is conclusive at 4 week's based on highly reliable trials and test's. Because the antigen in the blood only lowers when antibodie's become detectable. Therefore the test would pick up one of these, but is expensive.

I did'nt see the OP mentioning discretion for testing? If that is the case OP,go to your GP to be tested.Go in the morning or before lunch so they can get the samples out by courier before or after lunch.Nobody will know why you visited your GP and your GP will be able to answers questions you may have or give info you might want.

Went totally off topic but should have said if the op does not have any pre existing immune issue's 12 week's is the normal time stated. If wanting to test further totally up to himself

You should still be getting tested even when playing safe. Condoms aren’t 100% protection. I only play safe and still get tested every 3/4 months.

Might be worth asking the person have they had any STIs. Get tested definitely but it would ease your mind a little.
