I’m thinking of joining CrossFit, is anyone here a crossfit member?

Is it worth the money?

Theres a few problems with crossfit...

1...its a class,not a gym...

And 2...some of the exercises they do is really bad form, like kipping pull ups....not a good way yo do a great back exercise...can seriously do ya harm in the long run,the same for the kipped muscle ups....its all about reps rather than doing the exercise with perfect form..

Then you have probably the most crazy move of all....the american kettlebell swing....form gets bucked out the window to get that bell above shoulder height...shoulders get squeezed and rounded in toward the body and then your neck becomes involved in helping to make room for your shoulders...theres a reason the russians have been doing the swing correct for something like 300yrs...do russian swings and keep perfect body alignment and form..

Bar the crazy speed and reps part of crossfit and the bad form exercises it does use good forms of workouts like emom(every min on the min)tabata and circuits amoung things thatll make working out fun, different and seriously hard going....tbh...any exercise will benifit you as well as controlling your food intake and all.

Don’t do it, run away from it (My personal opinion)..

just go join a local gym, learn about what it is you want to achieve from going to the gym and enjoy it...

if you lack confidence, then take a few classes just so you get the hang of things and understand how the machines work. Ensure that you’re doing it correctly, nothing worse than seeing someone doing it all wrong.. it’s all about consistency really..

Good Luck

Normally you don't have to ask people if they do cross fit. As normally they just tell you

I agree with you that kipping and bad form are very dangerous for the athlete but would that not be down to the coach and athlete. In my opinion ego lifting is just as dangerous. I've seen lads in gyms for years jumping to much in weight between sets not bracing and absolutely no form or spotter just to impress, at least in a crossfit gym the coach will be keeping an eye on your form and advising if your going to heavy.

But that's only my experience and I wouldn't consider myself a crossfitter

Tried CrossFit. Wasn’t fussed on it, I can see the appeal but I wouldn’t really recommend it based on my experience. Seems to be as much a social thing as anything else, just depends on what you’re after or what your goals are.

Aren't crossfitters just the vegans of the gym world ?

How do you know if someone is a crossfitter ??

Just wait they'll tell you

If your really thinkin bout it...join local gym...do a few classes...seriously get a few PT sessions in,them ppl will help you out with perfecting your form and technique before you decide to move onto moving free weights of any decent weight....itll do ya the world of good in the long run and youll have a giod understanding of how things work and types of workouts too....dont just look at machines and free weights...kettlebells and the concept 2 rowers are great too...good luck on your journey and enjoy bud

Yep

A club (is that what you call it?) Has recently opened near us. Everyone I know that goes to it, to a man never shuts up about it. It's even worse if you're in the company of 2 crossfitters, you may aswell be invisible.

I’ve tried a number of gyms, love CrossFit. coaches regularly checking form during lifts. Perhaps it depends on individual gyms if coaching isn’t great

Only if you are committed and have a clear picture in your mind that you will do it 3 times a week during two year minimum and no excuses even on rainy cold days(minimum 2 hours per day), it's better than wanking...

Never mind the coach... Nowadays dedicated people do it even alone if they have the will and will give what it takes... All you need is the equipment in the gym and a good old set of tunes

Once upon a time yes... Now only cycling to work in all weather conditions. That far doesn't burn itself too much going on with work for this year with my private life... I barely have time to play guitar once a week and play basketball and MTB, and spend time with my lovely child... Full busy

Definitely depends on the coaches. I went to my local CrossFit and was made feel so unwelcome never darkened the door again

At the time I was already squatting 50kg and deadlifting 70kg. Was a female coach I didn't fit "the look" found a different place and was in training with guys lifting heavy than them.
