So now your profile pic has to be a public one. No more pulling any from my private or friends only ones. Ah well some will just stay hidden for ever I guess. Mind you it will stop me accidently putting some up as well

What difference does it make? If you have a profile pic up, everyone can see it anyway

But isn't a profile pic public in any case or am I missing something?

But as jaffa said isn't it public in any case once its up on profile because private or friends pics stay as a thumbnail size they can be enlarged etc so while yes rgwt are public up to a point its not like the ones you have open to public views.

"What difference does it make? If you have a profile pic up, everyone can see it anyway"

Differences are:

1. If one is using chrome browser - they can not expand the page (photo included), so they'll only see a tiny avatar of a profile pic. Big enough to see what it is. Small enough to keep all details hidden.

2. Site supporters have an option of seeing public photos in their original size/quality with a link to users profile watermarked on them. Which results in an easy peasy way of simply downloading someone else's photo and using it for malicious purposes. No, Sydney university post it in your profile will not help you.

A lot of users like to put their face up as their profile photo and have that said photo in friends only to stop random people from zooming right in.

With that kind of photo having to be public - any site supporter could right off download your public face with a watermark directing whoever sees it straight to your profile.

This new rule straight up pushes people back into having to hide. Not sure what the site was trying to achieve with it

Ah I see. There was more to it than I realised. It doesn't really matter to me in any case as I've no friends as yet

Just don’t put identifying pics as your profile pic

Now I've to disagree with this one. There was always a way to zoom into avatars if you like it or not.

My best guess is that this rule will make the filter of not being able to message without a public picture more effective.

"I use chrome browser on an iPhone and I can zoom right in on profile pics.

Don't put identifying pics as a profile pic = go back into hiding.

Solid logic here.

Oh other hand...

Seeing hidden profiles are able to keep their avatars available only in tiny versions for public viewing. If you're wanting to hide that bad- maybe them avatars should be hidden too?

I've no problem having my face pic as public or even in my public photos. I've no problem if someone does identify me.

What I have a problem with is people not being given a choice not to have their most identifiable photos attached to fab watermark, easily accessible for anyone to download.

It’s quite frankly none of your business why I’ve hidden my profile but I don’t care if people can see my avatar.

If I wanted to hide “that bad” I wouldn’t post on the forum.

Not having identifying pics doesn’t equal hiding in my book but we all know that you don’t care if your face pic is everywhere. Others are more private

If you don’t want a pic attached to a fab watermark, don’t upload it. It’s very simple.

Hey Bo, I would love to see the reasoning behind what some sites do to the user and the little rules they bring in, a lot of it doesn't make sense, normally though it's to increase revenue so they may allow gold members to choose a private pic

I think fab is trying to close a privacy gap. With the pic having to be public, they're covering their arses.

As for the fab watermark, I don't really see your issue especially as you don't mind being recognised. If someone has malicious intentions and wants to expose you, they will/can establish a link between your pic and your fab profile in many ways, watermark there or not.

Finally there's a simple solution: you can always reduce the pixels of your pic to a bare minimum, it will still look great as an avatar but rather blurred as a public pic or when you try to zoom into.

Ah don't get upset. I never clicked on your profile as I've no reason to look at it, but if the shoe fits, please be my guest...

Oh and my face isn't plastered everywhere, but thanks for your little dig at my "lack of privacy". I'm sure you all also know who I fuck and in what ways too seeing you all know everything so well

Not sure who you all are. Ten points for your supreme privacy

On a serious note, DH is right - if one doesn't want photo to be identifiable reducing pixels is the way. Just more bloody hassle

Oh yeah forgot to say, just set one public, set it as an avatar and then make it private again. BUT be aware that your avatar pic is still de facto a public pic.
