One for the men of FAB seeing as.today is..

International Men's Day

...a day that aims to bring more awareness on certain subjects like Men's health; Issues facing men today, gender relations as well as recognising and promoting male role models Yes, there is indeed a lot of guys & lads on Fab

...so thought this might be an opportunity to show the other men (& women ) that we're more than the 200+ monosyllabic 2 worded messages with attached cock pic that most women receive each day

-----------------------

Now, how many man want to "man up" and share your thoughts on any of the following...

1. What male role model did you have as a kid?

2. What man inspires you the most today and why?

3. If you could live in any era in history, what era would that have been & why?

4. Do you think there's a difference in being "a man" today and being "a guy"?

5. Do you find most other men to be more competitive or co-operative these days?

---------------------

Am simply opening this up to being an honest, non-judgemental thread

for men to bring up other topics

(apart from "I can't get a meet here!" ...)

around being a man in 2019

Any comments / insights / pearls of wisdom?

Pearls of wisdom might be a bit of a long shot! But

In each different era of time men are judged differently. What I would have admired in men is the toughness and physical work ethic they had, but looking at these men know they had strong women behind them that done all the unseen work back then with the family and house. This is unacceptable these days as it’s seen to be oppressive against women and equality.

For international men’s day, which personally I think it’s a joke cause there will probably soon be cards made up for it and expected each year so businesses can make more money off the back of us, we should ask what is a man now, is he the stay at home dad, the metrosexual, the high flying business man, the bread winner, the gentlemen who holds the door, the sports star with the six pack that all the girls swoon over, the family man or all of these or different things to different people?

I think men struggle with trying to be perceived to be all of these things rather than just being themselves and still struggle with open conversations with their peers rather than appearing week in work, or out socially in a group of people.

Jesus I miss the simpler times of BJ and steak day.

Honestly I dont have a fucking clue what it means to "be a man" in this day and age. But thats probably a good thing right, less defined and resteicted gender roles means people are free to be themselves, in theory anyway.

Love this idea.

1. What male role model did you have as a kid?

To be honest, my Dad was a pretty poor role model, and I didn’t have any others. I think you just gave me something to think about...

2. What man inspires you the most today and why?

My best friends dad. He’s a man’s man, a farmer, who gets by on 2 hours sleep a night, and works a night shift after farming all day. He takes shit from no-one, and is the king of his castle, but is a gentleman at the same time. THAT’S what I aspire to

3. If you could live in any era in history, what era would that have been & why?

I think we’re in a golden age right now. Chivalry is NOT dead, as a lot of people seem to think, and misogyny is on the way out.

4. Do you think there's a difference in being "a man" today and being "a guy"?

Being “a guy” is just having the Male sexual organs, whereas being “a man” requires you to know about football, cars, how to fix things, a degree of physical strength, etc etc.

5. Do you find most other men to be more competitive or co-operative these days?

Competitive, definitely, but I think that’s true of women too, if to a lesser extent. People in general don’t seem to like to see other people doing well.

Personally, it’s old fashioned but I’d like to get in touch with my feminine side, that feminine part in all of us. In truth, I’d like to touch many many feminine parts.

1.I think most lads grow up with their father as a role model,my views changed from hero worshipping ,to resentment, and eventually to sympathy, for reasons i won't outline on here!.but he shaped me into the man I am today, and I think,or at least I hope,I took the best bits! . 2.No men really inspire me today, because I've become cynical about what I see ,and what is portrayed through media!..I'm a positive person, and I believe in the choices I make, though not always right! . 3. An era in history..Probably during the Renaissance ,where people were open to new ideas . 4.A man has confidence in himself, is willing to listen to others ideas, and respects those around him!..Experience is the greatest teacher,no matter who you are or what you do! .A guy still spends all his time trying to impress others, rather than being true to himself,he tries to be popular by saying the right thing, and is more likely to try and lick up to others, rather than be called out for having an opinion!(age is irrelevant! ) .5.Personally,I find men less competitive, though maybe that's because I can spot the bullshitters a mile off,and they know not to take me on! (yes I know that sounds arrogant!)

1. What male role model did you have as a kid? The ould fella without a doubt

2. What man inspires you the most today and why? Jim Carrey. He is such an inspirational person. His commencement speech at the MUM graduation was amazingly inspiring, insightful, funny and truthful all in one.

"You can fail at what you don't want to do, why not take a chance at what you love?"

3. If you could live in any era in history, what era would that have been & why? 50s 60s 70s why?? Rock and roll baby.

4. Do you think there's a difference in being "a man" today and being "a guy"? Im a man, I'm a guy, so no.

5. Do you find most other men to be more competitive or co-operative these "

on fab - overly competitive, in general - co-operative

1. What male role model did you have as a kid?

My father being one, even now he isn't your modern man, but he tries and really instilled a lot of things into me. And having played golf for over 30 years there have been many from that field, after all its a game governed on honesty and respect. So too many to mention but would happily give a one on one why.

2. What man inspires you the most today and why?

My daughter, even today she's filled with me with so much joy, working from home and its been a shit day, yet she came over to mine after school and back down to earth I came.

3. If you could live in any era in history, what era would that have been & why?

Quite happy with the era I grew up in, I hate to think what it would be like in any other, yet love history, wouldn't like to live it though.

4. Do you think there's a difference in being "a man" today and being "a guy"?

Being me is sometimes hard enough, so really can't see being a man or a guy being any different, we are all who we are.

5. Do you find most other men to be more competitive or co-operative these days?

I think the modern man has come on leaps and bounds since my fathers generation. Empathy is a little higher on the agenda (maybe not enough in some, myself included) Sharing and caring.
