Why call me Hon or Mate

People on here who call me Hon or Mate without knowing me....it just turns me off... Am I being odd? .. Anybody out there with any thoughts?....where do I come up with these things

There are terms endearment that put people right off..

Its doesnt bother me too much, its just how someone speaks.

If someone messaged me and wad interesting and kept calling me babes or something id probably roll with it.

If the content of their messages was not interesting to me it would probably annoy the shit outta me

I dislike over-familiarity, so when random strangers mail using expressions like hun, babes, princess, etc., it does tend to make me go 'ugh'...

Hun tends to be a 'townie' Wexford thing, so it gets bandied about quite a lot, and when I see it in a message, my mind automatically reads that message in the strongest of Wexford town accents .

However... I myself am guilty myself of using 'sweetie' in messages or on the forum now and then (once I get to know someone a bit), or even 'lovely/lovelies' (for which I totally blame my UK friends )... I started to use both ironically among friends, particularly to tease those of them whom use either term often, but they now seem to have slipped into my regular vocabulary

So, if I call any of you lovelies, sweetie.... It's because I like you
