I understand both points of view. But we have left behind the days when one groups moral viewpoint dictated and controlled the lives of everyone in the community. People are now free to choose how to live their lives. That's the way it should be, no moralising, no judgement, no restrictive laws.

My view on abortion has always been this:

You have every right to believe abortion to be justified or not, but if you're not willing to take on the role of carer or provider to an unwanted child then you don't get to tell other's what they should or shouldn't be allowed to do.

Especially when that person's decision has no affect on your life whatsoever.

It's pure arrogance to think you're that important that you get to tell other's how they should live their lives.

If your looking to vent your anger , disgust , sorrow at what I assume you see as the loss of innocence, with yesterday's decision

Why don't you get on board the campaign trying to get the hundreds ( that we know about) of kids left to rot in septic tanks dotted across the land removed and buried the decent way,

These kids died in the very hands of what I assume you see as an alternative to what I,d call the Woman's/Couples right to choose,,

You can't do Fffk all about yesterday's result, but go out and put your mouth to good use and go fight the good fight on behalf of the innocent.

I don't like abortion.

.

However, I don't have a womb so I am never going to be in a position where I will need to make the difficult decision on whether to have one or not so therefore I believe in leaving that choice in the hands of the person in that situation and acting on the best medical advice. That is now the case in the north as in the south and in Britain.

.

We know also that decriminalisation of abortion doesn't necessarily mean an increase in the numbers, just a change in the location.

.

As for use of the term "murder", that's a very subjective and loaded legal term which is neither correct nor appropriate in this case.

Because it's a life and traditionally it's been men's job to protect life not women's.

More than that, it is their child's life.

The argument that it should only be their choice holds water if every woman must have sex non stop, and they don't, they can just not have sex.

I think men making laws about abortion is ridiculous but I do believe that the men involved in the pregnancy should be allowed a voice.

Yes the woman goes through the pregnancy so she should get first choice.

(Now I'll get to the controversial part)

But, if a woman now has the right to decide she doesn't want to be a parent, then a man should be afforded the same choice.

I admit it's a dickhead move for a man to abandon his child, but I believe he shouldn't be forced into it by law any more.

A can of worms has been opened.

It was different when abortion was illegal, but the dynamics have changed now.

Dave Chappelle put it best:

If you have the right to kill it, then surely I should have the right to at least abandon it.

My money, my choice.

I'm pro life but I agree with this. Its a logical stance to have.

If a woman can say "It was a mistake, I am killing your kid", then a man should be able to say "It was a mistake, youre 100% on your own".

I dont even think it would make him an asshole, just a realist.

I'd go even further though. Taking into account I am pro life, I am pro child allowance, pro single parent payments, pro single women with children being pushed up the social housing ladder.

But, I am logical and realist above all that, so if society says women have a choice to abort, then its their choice to have the baby into poverty, its their choice to have the baby into no home, its their choice to take a few months off work.

So, shouldnt they fund it all themselves? Shouldnt mens tax only go to fund single men and families social housing, and women should fund the women who chose to have a baby in poverty, single mother payments, and abortions themselves?

Shouldnt a boss be able to say "Well you are chosing to take the time off work to have the baby at a critical time, so you are sacked"?

Yeah I've thought about those issues.

I'd me more on the pro choice side myself but that's irrelevant.

I'm glad I live in a country where we have child benefit, single mother's payment etc., but I also believe having children isn't a right if you can't care and provide for them.

Wow...Two people on opposite sides of the argument expressing views, having them considered and being open to responses that may challenge their own views.

What's the world coming to

A woman will still have to travel outside of Northern Ireland to have an abortion until at least March 2020

"Killing innocent blood.

I understand both points of view. But we have left behind the days when one groups moral viewpoint dictated and controlled the lives of everyone in the community. People are now free to choose how to live their lives. That's the way it should be, no moralising, no judgement, no restrictive laws. "

"Now, this isn't sucking up to anyone, ride or no ride !

But I always wondered why men were included in any debate about abortion.

Maybe a simplistic view point....but it's something they will never have to experience.

It's simply a woman's choice !

Because it's a life and traditionally it's been men's job to protect life not women's.

A mans job to ‘protect’ life.... seems to me that down through the years, it’s been mostly men who did the killing

More than that, it is their child's life.

The argument that it should only be their choice holds water if every woman must have sex non stop, and they don't, they can just not have sex."

Its a big grey animal or in this case it could be a pink one.

They are taking you for a ride but dont be expecting sex!

If all parties and politicans agreed then there would be no need for them and the cunts would all be out of a job and would be on a basic wage like every one else.

Party A will argue yes. Party B will argue no. Party C will argue neither yes or no and so on and so on and fukin so on.

These fukers must think the voters are all so gulliable and be laughing all the way to the bank whilst the people who put them there are living on the bread line.

The only thing those cunts will agree on is when they give them selves a healthy pay rise and increase the expenses accounts.

They make my blood boil.

How many pro lifers have walked in the shoes of someone givin a diagnosis of fatal fetal abnormality? Abortion being brought in is not something to be calibrated and I am not familiar with the legislation with which has been introduced in the North or how accessible it will be but in certain circumstances intervention is necessary and in certain cases the choice should be there

Your view is extreme and the language you choose to use enforces that and as said above there is no debating with someone who's opinion is that far the other side so I hope you enjoyed you rant anyway.

Some poor teenager who has been sexually abused by a family friend, an uncle, a teacher or a neighbour for years, pregnant with a child who is neither wanted and will probably never be loved, possibly like close breeding of dogs, may be severely disabled and need 24 hour care, aye sure torture the girl more by making her have the child!!

A promiscuous young woman in her 20s or 30s, no contraceptive, just loves sex, goes for an abortion every 3, 6, 12 or 18 months for 5 or 10 years, yep keep aborting the unwanted children because the woman can't be assed with the pill!!

Arguments for all, who are we to judge?

I hope it never effects me either way.

I've seen the term "Darkest Day for Northern Ireland" used about yesterday's law changes that give women autonomy over their own bodies and allow people who love each other to marry. There's even a hashtag. People are entitled to their opinion and I respect that. "Darkest Day" are big words to use in this country though.

9th August 1971 : Ballymurphy.

30th January 1972 : Bloody Sunday.

21st July 1972 : Bloody Friday.

31st July 1975 : Miami Showband.

5th January 1976 : Kingsmill.

6th December 1982 : Ballykelly.

20th November 1983 : Darkley.

8th November 1987 : Enniskillen.

5th February 1992 : Sean Grahams. Ormeau Road.

"I don't like abortion.

Expensive too....women were not only subjected to judgement but also forced to pay in excess of £500 for the termination. That plus flights plus taxis and accommodation all mounts up x

A topic that always ends with anger, even hatred for the people on the "other side", with no tolerance or respect for their opinion. It's just one of those arguements

For me it's not about should it be allowed or not. Like it or not it's here to stay.

Should it be the woman's choice? Maybe? For health reasons and where r*** was the cause, absolutely. In studies where women who have had the procedure where asked for their reason for having it, health and r*** accounts for less than 10%.

Other reasons that make up the other 90% -

Would interrupt my career

Cant afford a baby

Done having children

Not ready to have a child.

I think, moving forward, its about reducing the need for abortions.

I understand that contraception is not 100% effective, however, for me it seems the problem is lack of responsibility, maybe lack of education. Maybe this is where time and energy should be focused rather than fighting a losing battle of who is right and who is wrong.

The fact that the repeat abortion rate in countries like the US, England and France is over 30% I think reinforces this point.

Just a thought

Gotta love how everyone is concerned about woman's body.

It's not her body that's in question. It's her whole life.

People quickly forget and disregard the fact that any woman is a human being too. Human being who has aspirations, goals, future plans, a life of her own which would be greatly impacted by having unwanted baby.

If sex in general wasn't such taboo in vanilla world - maybe people would take greater care at preventing pregnancies.

How many women do you know in real life, who blush and giggle when you mention a condom? I surely know a good few.

Those kind of women raised by religion will not mention said condom to a guy, who's about to have sex with them either.

They'll track their cycle, wash themselves, but God forbid them being needy until it's too late.

And what about men?

Sayings like "Having sex with a condom on is like licking a jam jar to taste the jam" and similar only make young men frown upon condoms and do everything to avoid them. "Be fine sure".

What about women who don't want to have children at all?

Guess what- one has to go through hell and back to get sterilized for good while everyone she meets on her way will try to convince her not to do it. That process takes years.

Why is the snip such unpopular option?

If a man has sex with 100 women in one month - all 100 can potentially fall pregnant from him.

If a woman has sex with 100 men in the same month. She will only get pregnant once.

So who's really responsible for most unwanted pregnancies?

And? The UK voted to enter the EU by an overwhelming majority and spent the next 30 years protesting it, till they got another vote and voted to leave.

The right to life was in the constitution, and people protested and abused people to get it removed.

Thats how democracy works. The 30% that failed are allowed campaign to get it changed back all they want.

Its why we will never amount to greatness, if we can not even put in place rules for a stupidly short time, like 1000 years, how can we put in place plans to save earth, colonize mars, and escape the solar system?

Its the whole reason Putin was able to solve some of Russias biggest problems, he ignored the time limits imposed on him, and got around them, and got long term plans put in place.

What is proper English ??

Half of the UK speak in a whole new language that I can't make head not tail off, Burv,

So are we talking the Kings English here old Chap ??

And while we are talking Shite (sorry sorry that's the Irish version)

Shit . What's all this got to do with the price of a good old steak pie,, Now

If one is to attempt to Ball Bust or run someone into the ground for the lack of their Grammer skills then one could and some Could argue , SHOULD be considered a Dick,

And I'm not referring to the Dessert old Chap,

And yes my Grammer and possibly spelling is Shite,,

But Hey what ya Gonna do.

I'm proud I'm not a backwards bastid.

How anyone feels they have the right to tell/force someone who they've never met, nor will ever meet, what they can/can't do with their own body is absurd!

Welcome to the 21st century you dinosaurs

"Gotta love how everyone is concerned about woman's body.

It amazes me what gets people going on the pro life side. If you're going to be pro life then concern yourself with the millions of children who die of malaria each year, cancer, heart victims and multiple other diseases. Not to mention children in the third world continually starving of food. Seems to me that to be concerned about abortion is a first world problem. Oh Jesus, the shops have closed and I've no fresh legumes!

It's a personal issue so everyone else piss off.

They are no more Pro Life,

They are Sheep following the longest SIFi book ever written

A book written by men who either hated or feared woman, these fools just afraid to let go of the past, and why

Because they are told to do so.

Sheep,

And in the case of Arleen's boys confused Sheep possibly the most confused humans on the planet

The poor confused Bastards,,

Women are literally described as some incubators when people say "it's their body".

What really boils my blood is when pro lifers say that women terminate pregnancies because it's an inconvenience. Being late for a bus is an inconvenience. Changing your whole life for good is not something just anyone can and have means to do.

Unfortunately, as stated in my previous post, a lot of the reasons given do kind of suggest inconvenience as a reason.

Interrupt career

Dont want a baby

Can't afford a baby

These are reasons given by woman who have had abortions. Fact. My point is maybe the issue is more to do with education (for both men and women) To reduce the need for so many abortions.

As I said inconvenience is being late for a bus, not an unwanted change that will be there with you for a lifetime.

Carrier - it's 2019. Women have to look after themselves and learn to stand on their own feet.

Having a baby when you don't have a husband or parents to provide for you a lot of times isn't an option.

Don't want a baby - self explanatory really. How many people kill themselves every year because they grew up in a family who didn't want or love them?

How many people kill themselves every year because they're stuck living a depressed life they didn't want or choose just because they got knocked up at an early age and didn't have a choice, but to go through with the pregnancy and give up the rest of their own wills and ambitions in result?

Can't afford a baby?

When was the last time you were down to your last teabag, in debt and not knowing when and where will you get any stable income?

Would you be happy to bring another human being into your starving world?

Yes, I agree about better education to prevent pregnancy in a first place, but as I said above in my long post which you chose to delete off the quote - growing up and being educated by religion making sex and protection a taboo, general men's and women's attitude to sterilization when and if they don't want to have any offspring at all. Men's attitude towards condoms- all of those things are on a very wrong level. And until that changes and society starts seeing sex in general as a thing to be open about - more and more women will get terminations as pregnancy does affect woman's WHOLE life and now more than ever as women finally are starting to appreciate their own existence too and not spend their whole life as a kitchen slave with only purpose to serve the family.

"Does no one else ever see the elephant in the room?

They make my blood boil."

The other grey elephant I saw I raised the next day but was ignored because it didn't sit well as people celebrated, was it was closer to home rule. If they went for a vote they may not have got either through, so they decided not to ask the voters opinions to decide but rather slip it in quickly and quietly at midnight.

The other issue which few realise is that because of the way it was done, with different wording to the UK law means no safety net was put in place to protect free speech on the issue. This will in time be put together, but as it stands anyone who 'publicly' speaks out against either can be sued. This may also have been deliberately done.

There is also the problem still over same sex marriage that the 47 judges in the European Court of Law unanimously agreed that no one has the 'right' to same sex marriage, and furthermore, no country is obliged to offer it. That's still the biggest obstacle currently being faced if anyone argues it's their right.
