They peaked last year and a combimation of being figured out and a loss of form for key players this was always going to be a step to far.

Shame for this group but still plenty of.talent and the players have the ability to.play a different game plan.

Biggest worry is that its farrell already lined up as.new.manager when his defensive system is outdated

Rugby rankings are quite silly in comparison to other sports, game to game rather than a time period so inactivity can see a team slide down rankings.

The reality has always been Ireland are outside the top four reflected by the stat that they never have been to a wc semi.

After the English game, and looking at all the other top teams performances we were realistically 6th in world rankings going into this, anyone believing were were no 1, was nuts

Now if we play Japan right now they would beat us again so fast fwd post tournament we are 7th,

We have not adapted in 2 years and have been left behind, easy to play against,

Big cull needed rebuild over 3 years and in the meantime everyone needs to tune into the fact that we are shite.

Like all World Cup tournaments ,it's the team that grows the most during the tournament usually wins it even if they've already a solid base ,they grow that little bit more as a unit during the tournament itself to win it,and like everything,it's in the knockout games that teams and players show exactly what they have...it wasn't Ireland's day today but l would always give them huge respect for what they do ..the hits they take and give ...unreal...

Agree completely with the huge respect for them for what they've done. 2p19 just hasn't been their year unfortunately.

"Don’t think we lost a line out ....

We lost loads in the japan game and other games.

With Toner we could have kicked to touch more, could have taken chances with longer kicks knowing we could put massive pressure on their line out down in their own half, or easily win our own line outs down there.

We were told he was left behind to make our mauling and rucks more dynamic, but were they?

Its getting a lot like football, leaving Irish born talent at home to come last, when they could have came last with Irish people anyway.

Agreed, but at least in football a paternal blood link is required, nothing in Rugby but residency, a shame to see but a level playing field as same for the others.

The integrity of international rugby has been lost years ago with introduction of imported foreign players into national squads. Think it's fundamentally wrong and its all now money driven.

Bundee Aki in the Ireland squad is an example as with many others, Japan has large portion in theirs.

I read somewhere Ireland brought a few younger ones over from polynesian islands and after 5 years gave them citizenship whhich allowes them to play for Ireland. There are getting fewer and fewer truely national players now.

By who? I've often wondered about these rankings validity. And on that performance, France demonstrated how these rankings are skewed.

Wales in the final with England is my prediction, though Japan might be the big surprise in all this. They have it in them at all levels.

They rankings mean nothing really. Ireland were never near number one going into this world cup, more like 5th or 6th would have been accurate.

There you go, Big tall guys on, Lineout, maul, exactly what I said Ireland should do against Japan with Toner. South Africa didn't care if this game was a bit ugly, they were there to win.

If Toner was there we would have been playing South Africa, we would have had momentum, we would have been in a lot better place mentally.

Yes, it makes no sense. For some reason we think coming from these places makes them better at Rugby, genetics or something.

But NewZealand put 3 Barretts on the field at the same time, thats an Irish name. Thats the type of players we can find in Ireland.

I dont really care where someones ancestors are from, but they should be born here and work their way up through the Irish system to get on the Irish team.

If we are still not performing then tweak how we develop youth, dont hand out passports to still come last. Try get in some from non private schools, set up some teams not assosiated with private schools to widen the pool of people who can play. Anything other than just trying to import people in the hope they perform for us in 10 years

That's a good possibility too. France did play well, but Wales didn't perform either. Hoping they get their injured fully fit and are able to return to playing their normal game next. It'll be a big match with heavy scrums and potential for both to pick up injuries going into the final.

Loved the way Japan have played. Above all their attitude towards the game, players and decisions have set them apart from most too. Kudos to them indeed.
