A town near you

Hi, we usually book hotels directly through their own websites.

However dozens of random booking sites offer the same hotels and dates at discounted prices.

Are these booking sites safe to use and what sites have fabbers found to be genuine?

We use them but pay at hotel, they give the company a percentage I would assume, few look to pay them and give a reference, I wouldnt use them

Some are good but I've found that some are actually more expensive. Also either search them on private mode or clear your cookies as they will change or match prices using the cookies from previous sites.

With third party bookings for hotels and flights my worry is always that if there is a double booking the person who booked directly will always have a better standing.

I also rarely find the sites cheaper especially if you phone or email the hotels.

I do find booking.com and trivago great for finding suitable hotels

I think we will book via hotel website as we often thought could be problems with lesser known sites and potential double bookings

i have used booking sites all over the world and never had a problem. always check the hotels own site as well but they rarely match the booking sites.

Booking.com trivago both really good. as i said, never had a problem.

take advice from people that actually use them, not people that knows someone that knows someone that knows a person that got ripped off !!! you can save a fortune.

I've used booking & Trivago with no issues. There seems to be a lot of new providers now. I've heard of one that offers very good deals on last minute hotels but they don't reveal hotel until you book it which may or may not suit you.

I’ve used Booking.com for years. I’m away at least 2 weekends of every month for one thing or another and I’ve never had any problems. Everything should be fine once you read the details of your booking correctly as you’re booking them. But like others suggest. I always check the hotel directly to price match which has only worked out cheaper a handful of times.

I travel lots so use hotels.com and for every 10 nights I pay for I get a free one to the average value of the 10 paid ones.

The free ones when you let them build up are great as it's a really cheap weekend away.

Have stayed in some great hotels for free or for a couple of euro top up payment.

This, plus they'll match any cheaper price you can find online with one of their competitors

I use booking.com and use two email addresses and keep referring one then the other and back to the first etc get money for doing so.

The likes of trivago seem to be similar price to the actual hotel sites it's the not so familiar websites we were curious about.

I use booking.com ,and what l also find good is a lot of the time you get a free cancellation up to 24 hrs should anything unexpected happen.

You can use TrustPilot to check the reliability of websites - just Google the name of the site + 'TrustPilot' and it will show the rating of the site and reviews. If you're really unsure, Google the name of the site + 'scam' and see if it shows something up.

Having worked in a hotel reception I can say that there is no issue with booking via a reputable 3rd party. Some sites like booking.com allow the hotel to set availability/price but you pay hotel. Others like expedia have a deal guaranteeing them x number of rooms a night at all times but you pay expedia what they ask and they pay the hotel what they agreed. Well worth shopping aabout as best deal isnt always the direct booking
