"Is it rude to be rude to a person, who's rude to you first? Alternative: Is it rude to be rude to someone who's selfish? Is it rude to be rude to someone, who doesn't register a polite "no"? When is it okay to be rude? Is it okay to be rude? I get all that "walk a mile in other person's shoes" and all.... but how many miles does one have to walk in others shoes till it becomes okay to snap? Is it okay to snap? So many questions.... " how rude

"If you want to lower yourself to the level of the person who's rude to you or ignorant, do so. Alternatively be wiser and rise above, stay calm and polite. I prefer the latter. " Nailed it

" Ignorance is ignorance ..l find the best way to deal or handle anything like that is to just totally ignore them ,it's not being rude ,it's just protecting you from them bringing you into their web of whatever the fuck they spin ,you could as you say " walk all the miles " you want in their shoes but they'll still be the exact same rude or ignorant person ..there is plenty of space for them out there ..just leave them out in it .. believe me .. wayyyyyyyyyy easier and better for you .

" That's the thing... when everyone is calm and polite to rude and ignorant people, they often think it's acceptable to treat other humans the way they do. Sometimes it's healthy to treat them with their own medicine. That's my logic anyway..

If you don't get upset or aggressive yourself their insult just hits a void, a bit like ignoring trolls rather than reacting to their provocations.

"I'm always reminded of university. At the end of the year the Student of the year award went to a girl who had travelled to Ireland to study. She was very vocal about how hard this was for her, she was rude, she used it as a reason for others to pick up her part of group work. The excuse was always "walk in her shoes". After the award a guy (Mr.A) went up to the lecturers, and said "I thought Mr.X would have gotten the award. He consistently got 90-100% in every test and I did my best to match him but couldnt. He also helped me every chance he could" The lecturer agreed that Mr.X got the best grades. But said to Mr.A, that you have to take into account how hard it was for the girl. He just looked at the lecturer blankly and walked off. The lecturer feeling that there might be bad feelings about the girl getting the award went over to talk to Mr.X, to see if he felt bad about not getting the award despite getting the best results. He said to Mr.X "Its true you got the best grades but that girl went through a lot and got good grades. Mr. A said he thought you would get the award. I understand that you helped him and others during the year but I explained to him that her personal situation was hard". Mr. X just looked at him in the eyes and said "Mr. A lost both his parents this year, his mum and dad died within 2 months of each other. He still got better grades than her. My best friend died this year. You chose to give her the award because she is most vocal about her problems, not because she had the hardest year." then just walked off. I dont think there is any reason to be rude, because there are people out there going through the worst year of their life, really really struggling with things, and they remain polite, they remain working, they keep it together, and these people have to put up with rude treatment, because some idiot is just more vocal about how hard things are for them."

Reminds me of a story that happened here on fab... Some girl was making very nasty comments about me and some other fab ladies. She kept going on and on about how bad we are to everyone she knew and didn't know. When she got confronted about it obviously there was no responce. One of her friends apologized for her saying "Oh, please don't be angry, she had a hard life, she is like that sometimes". We all have our problems and nobody's life is just rainbows and butterflies...

Just need to remember lots of people are going through hard times and doing it while remaining polite.
