Are most people here with eir? Anyone else think that they are totally sh1te as a company and service provider ?

Formally telecom eireann, Change provider, oh wait you can't. That the problem, they provide most of the infrastructure that all other providers use.

terrible service. their customer service is very hit and miss. we only use them for mobile (bill and pre pay) but herself is switching soon and i'm leaving them when m contract finishes up with them.

They used to be called P&T but the name had to be changed because that was all they ever did

I was with them for WiFi calling but soon ditched them when I discovered they charged for imessages. Cheeky bastards.

Worst customer service I have ever experience, left waiting twice for telephone connection to my new built house with no show from their installer and pushed back 6 weeks for next visit which came and went with no show again. Called customer care after their 2nd mo show and after waiting 45 mins to speak to someone got a guy who genuinely didn't give 2 fucks and then put me in hold to speak with supervision but while waiting when the clock struck 6pm the line went dead....called vodafone who ran in my phone line the following week and the use KN Networks who also do most of Aer's connections.

About a year later Aer ran fiber broadband up my road and the sales team called to my door trying to get me to sign up saying they had full rights to the line for 2 years as they ran it in, wouldn't go for it when it was Aer but they were full of shit as I got connected to it 6 months later with Vodafone. My bro and anyone I know that ever dealt with them had the same kind of dealings with Eircom/Aer, if you have the option of another provider avoid them like the plague

Don't waste your money, a recent EU ruling means all the streaming IP address will be blocked and the satellite dodgy boxes have already been shut down. Only way to get your channels now will be to subscribe to legit provider or just stick with the free to air channels

U got Vodafone but it's still air fibre and it goes to their node in the local town. Vodafone just lease it. in the end of there's a fault, its air that'll fix it

I don't have to deal with Aer though if there is a fault its Vodafone I call....would loose my sanity if I had to deal with aer again

yes service is shit and customer service is even worse get onto com reg and make your compliant and ask for case number and eir have 7 days to sort issue....consumer rights it’s the only way forward

Vodafone have their own fibre exchanges in a lot of areas now and don't rely on Eir. The main issue with line based broadband in this country is the outdated system being used to run it. Many of the lines are old and cannot handle it. I'm not talking about the external lines but the ones running from Exchanges to houses. Many of these have not been replaced since the house was built.

Even with UPC/Virgin they aren't true fibre as they are (fibre powered) meaning that the main source is fibre which comes from the Netherlands and makes land in Ireland down in cork. From there the signal is hosted and repeated around the country.

Vodafone and the ESB networks have been working for a number of years running fibre through the electric networks systems to allow fibre to be brought to more rural areas. They first rolled it out in Cavan of all places.

The unfortunate issue is many built up areas have no choice but to use Eir's inferstructure as much of it was layed while Eircom was a state body.

ESat BT do have some exchanges which Sky run their Broadband through but it's mainly in Dublin, Cork,Kildare, Kilkenny, Galway, and Waterford. The unfortunate thing is you actually don't know who's Exchange shelf you'll be put on as the company won't tell you it all depends on space and allotment of service.

Basically the country is screwed. Hence why the 5G rollout will help change the mobile and Broadband industry in Ireland provided they allow for the installation of towers and Repeaters in rural areas and the signal has a smaller footprint than that of 4G so requires more repeaters to allow the signal to travel.

I may or may not have worked for one or more of the above mentioned companies in the past for my sins .
