I think the tendency of writing off, mocking and disparaging men defending women as "white knights" is another way for shitheads and fuckboys to keep being shitheads and fuckboys and keep their standards of behaviour as low as possible.

The fact that women also seem to disparage men who are outspoken and progressive is depressing as fuck.

Given that the aim of most men on this site is to get into my knickers I'm happy to go with the one who isn't a rampant misogynist and isn't afraid to speak up about it, no matter their motivation.

If the white knight is a friend of the person they're backing up..then grand..mates have each others backs. Even then it should only be when its getting abusive..if you don't know the person then you have no business interfering..we are all grown up here..he/she can just block the attacker or report them.

I wouldn't white knight necessarily but I wont let anyone be abusive to another person for no reason. Regardless of sex whether I know them or whether I hope to get in their knickers. If your been a outright cunt to someone ima call you out for it regardless.

Usually most women and or men are well capable of defending themselves but you do get the odd one that I'm sure is more than happy with the assistance.

In general if your been abusive on any social site whether it be this and your abusing a woman who said no to you or your been racist on a post on Facebook. If you say something I dont like or disagree with I'm not going to hold my lip shut to suit you. If the topic or situation merits some kinda involvement I'll happily get involved. That goes for in public too in all walks of life.

No person should be a victim of negativity or abuse from another person they know let alone strangers.

I don't know that properly obsequious white knighting happens all that often on here... Not as much as people might think anyway. I've noticed friends and people who genuinely know each other backing each other up and defending each other... But isn't that what friends do in any situation? To me, white knighting is something a bit more random... Virtual strangers jumping in with the hope of ingratiating themselves, and yes, that can come across as a bit creepy... Articulating and defending a shared point of view or opinion I can understand, but when the defence takes on a personal tone and a stranger is commenting in a 'well I wouldn't do that to you... You're hawwwwt!' kind of way, that comes off as fawning.

There's a lot of jumping to defence when a woman claims she got abuse. That's a prime example of white knighting. The problem I have with it is that it's just her side of the story, we don't know what led up to it, it might not even be true at all but peeps rush to defend and verbal cuddle. There's no questioning, just the headless run to defence.

I think white kniting is different. I think it's all about the hidden intent behind the support. I think white knights are not true or honest in their intentions. Their motivation is purely selfish, instead of noble. I admire a true white knight. However these white knighters have no integrity. More fool to anyone who falls for their deception.

I think is ok when there is a clear position to defend but when is just an plain argument of different opinions ... well we are all entitled to ours!
