Waterford

It's 18 years ago today that I had my first chicken burger out of Danny's take away in Waterford.

Anyone from Waterford will know that back in the day Danny's had the best chicken burgers in town.

I remember it well as I was eating it while watching a news report about some major event that happened on the same day.

Never mind the fact almost 3000 people lost there lives on that day but once your burger was good that's the main thing

I was in a holiday cottage in skull in West Cork when sky news were covering the attacks. Couldn't believe it. A very poignant moment

I was in a German class.....

As big a tragedy as it was the out pouring of grief that is never matched for simular attacks and natural disasters always seems strange to me.

It's great that you have a positive memory of that day OP

Tragedies occur, people pass... We grieve, we mourn, we move on. Life is for living, and nobody should be made feel guilty or disrespectful for having good memories or for not wishing to dwell or wallow in sadness. Will you have another chicken burger today to mark the occasion OP?

When the US womens team won the world cup, none of them wore black armbands, or mentioned an ISIS terror attack on the Uk that killed people on that day in the past.

They just talked about how they personally want to be paid more, and how they enjoy being lesbians.

They all affect me the same, and the families will be on my mind for days, or even weeks (there but for the grace of god, etc.), but the living need to keep on living, to focus on the future, and to look forward. Every day is an anniversary to someone. Today will also be the anniversary of people who didn't die in the WTC or the Pentagon, or on flight 93... People who died peacefully in their beds, or from illness, or in their own personal tragedies. People who will be quietly remembered by family and friends but are otherwise unknown and not remembered by the world at large, people who's families may feel that the world has completely forgotten about those they lost, simply because it wasn't as newsworthy.

It's good to remember, but it's good not to lose perspective either

I was 11, I was in my aunts I always went there after school. I remember her and her husband were glued to Sky News watching it all happen.

We went to the memorial and the museum when we were in New York a few years ago. You can just feel the sadness in the place..

I was just reminded this morning of that awesome chicken burger when I realized what the date was.

Everyone else seems to be bringing up the other event that happened that day.

I just wanted to show appreciation for a certain burger.

I don’t think it’s remembered just for the death toll but because it changed the view of the world we had forever. This type of terror attack was unprecedented . . The planning & the scale and the fact that so many innocent lives were lost. I know the debate of wars gone past including, Ireland’s own and who’s innocent etc. continues but this really was a game changer!
