Listening to 2fm and they’re discussing the male pill. Guys, if and when it becomes available, would you take it?

(Clearly I’m in the mood to be annoyed )

Sure...

Be warned though I often leave the house without my lunch, forget family members birthdays and have lost 4 coffee cups by driving away with them in my roof...

Every drug has side effects. Only major issue is that it may lead to unprotected sex and this sti's etc. With a long term partner..yeah..I'd still give it a go. Easy to come off it if it didn't work out

Absolutely not that's an individual decision! But what I would say is as the female pill is around a lot longer there is evidence it doesn't dramatically effect fertility long time

I would hope that women on the pill aren’t having unprotected sex outside of long term relationships but sadly not the case. You’d have to assume that people would be as naive regarding the male pill.

The consequences of forgetting the pill unfortunately can have much further reaching consequences affecting the woman and her body . Therefore but sadly I don't think I'd ever trust a man taking the responsibility of contraception via male pill.

Absolutely! I’d encourage any single man to do so too!

Condoms are great, but due to tampering and d*unkenness they leave a lot to be desired from the point of view of men protecting their non existent reproductive rights!

"What happens when you take it?

Why would there be reduced blood flow?

The pill in development appears to contain progesterone which inhibits the production of sperm. It also contains some testosterone to counteract any effects from the progesterone on hair patterns, sex drive and function, weight patterns etc

Imo, in an ideal world both parties would be taking contraception, sharing the responsibility.

Personally, the doctor won’t put me on the full pill due to family history and weight. I am allowed the mini pill but given that I was conceived while my mother was on the mini pill, I wouldn’t be putting my faith in it! So for now condoms are essential even in ltr. Perhaps in the future, a partner could do what I can’t and take a pill to keep those pesky kids away

I'm allergic to kids.

Luckily Dirk got a snip

On a serious note. I did spend exactly one month on a pill. Never again. Mood swings, depression, random twitches, Weight gain and constant tiredness.

Every woman I asked about it have had admitted to have similar symptoms and they either stayed or went away.

Now given that - why is it acceptable for women to go through this and not acceptable for a man?

If one woman has sex with a hundred men in one month. She can only get pregnant once. If a man has sex with a 100 women - all of them 100 women can potentially get pregnant.

Who should really be on a pill?

Lol my partners in the past would normally forget everything, so I'd be a lill uneasy about them remembering, i would almost become a nag to religiously keep asking "Did you take it"....... imagine your partner wanting a baby and you didn't although in that circumstance I'm sure the woman would be in control.

Assuming its effects are exactly the same.

I'd say most guys who use it would use it responsively for obvious reasons. That's not to say women should trust them anymore than a guy trust a woman to take them.

Same analogy should be applied to safe sex, and few will trust what another says for many valid reasons.

Forgetting to take the pill doesn't empregnant anyone. However, going ahead and having sex regardless after you've forgotten can. I'm pretty sure after the 3rd or 4th time having to tell your lady that you cant have sex tonight cuz you're an idiot, taking it regularly would become second nature to anyone.
