Read an article the other day about parables and socialization of values. The article said that from biblical times through fairytales and up to modern Disney movies there’s underlying messages and meanings about what these stories are really all about.

An example Peter Pan: a magical figure comes into your bed at night time and flies you to never never land where you’ll be a child forever and never grow old. While you’re there you can play with all your friends and lots of exiting adventures with pirates, cowboys and Indians, you’ll always be happy ... it’s all about death and heaven.

Any ideas what the other movies could be about?

A lot of films are based on Jungian archetypical figures. The 4 archetypes of "King, warrior, lover, magician" are all used through 4 main characters in programmes like THE INBETWEENERS or SEX AND THE CITY. What makes it hilarious is that the 4 characters are only the shadow self of what they could be ...and so never live up to their full potential

An educated man I see... wasn't focusing on common characters constructs found in stories but rather the stories themselves... the art of allegory.

Well the unconsci*us mind is symbolic so when you see the likes of say, Stanley Kubrik using his films to convey a symbol and it's associative meaning into the minds of his viewers, you can't but be impressed...

It would be natural that stories take inspiration from what writers know and are intirgued about.

They are all linked by an imaginative strand.

I don't think you'll find a big secret in picking apart Disney films. But you might be interested in some of their originss I guess if you're a fan. There are only so many 'types' of stories really. They just get retoldvand repackaged - Disney are the masters of that.

sounds like pavlov's dogs all over again, classic conditioning linked to symbolism. David Finchner does it allot too especially in Fight Club and The Game.

The origins on Disney movies are usually more interesting than the tales themselves.

Just look into the original story of the Little Mermaid for example.

Exactly the metaphoric subliminal teachings are easily absorbed] and socialised because of their lateral presentation. This has been going on through religious texts for millennia and Disney are the contemporary delivery system.

When you think about deeper meanings then Snow White takes a whole new turn.

I have read before about so many twists Disney have given on actual stories to make it into films.. Little Mermaid I am fairly sure gave up her voice to get legs so that she could walk on land and find the guy she saved but apparently it was meant to feel like she was walking on broken glass for every step... she found him yeah but he married someone else and didnt remember her cause he was unconsci*us when she found him.. she had the choice to kill the fella and go back as a mermaid but she couldnt so went back to the sea and dissolved herself instead... actually come to think of it I think most of the classics have similar backgrounds where the stories have been changed !!

They are awful.

Male dominated, stupid men save the day, intelligent women relegated to support roles. Being beautiful is more important than anything else in the world for women.

It's not just disney its most films aimed at kids. Even harry potter etc.

I still remember reading about the sisters in Cinderella cutting off chunks of their own feet to try fit in the slipper.

Harry is the popular jock. You might not see him that way, but thats what he is.

He hangs around with the class clown and the prettiest girl in the class who happens to be intelligent.

Like I said above hermonie is relegated to support cast. Being the most intelligent woman in the book does not get her the hero of the story, it gets her one of the dumbest people in the boo. While the hero settles for what is in his opinion a prettier younger model.

I dunno what the writer being female has to do with it. Miss oh I am not brave to write gay or diverse characters so years later i will just say dumbledoor is gay. Shes a coward, recognised by her allowing men who beat women to star in her newest films.

Saying all that, if her books did not meet the disney view of the world then they wouldnt have been made into films by anyone.

Except in Japan where they will make strong female characters.
