Waterford

Yep.

The sound wasn't great from where I was but the band were on fire and that stage show was great.

Have to admit I got a few goosebumps during Nothing Else Matters with the crowd singing and accompanying awesome laser display.

However, the only part of the day I really enjoyed was watchin' the lads perform.

1st and last time at Slane for me.

Aye, Ghost put on a great show. Would love to see them do a big indoor venue in Ireland.

I lost my shit when Metallica played Master of Puppets. 15 year old me came out haha

Yeah, same.

€20 to park a car and over an hour's walk to the venue.

Place was overcrowded. I've been to sold out Slane before and there were definitely quite a few more than 70,000 at that. You didn't walk anywhere, you jostled/pushed through everyone.

Heineken was watery, though quite a few seemed strongly affected by it. Surprising considering that the bar queues were that long/slow that they should have sobered up by the time they got served more.

Sound to the left of stage was excellent. Metallica were brilliant and put on a real spectacle. We moved up the hill for the encore but the sound was so bad up there, we left.

Walking out, we were amazed at how many people were also leaving. It was as busy as it was going in, or more! I've never seen that many people leave a gig early.

Then another hour plus walk and mostly uphill.

Won't be going to Slane again, unless it's AC/DC or Pearl Jam as I don't think it would be worth the effort for anyone else. Even then I'd be weighing up the pros and cons.

Thanks Metallica but no thanks Slane Castle/ MCD.

We were up near the barrier on the right. Ghost were good, never heard or seen them before but will be checking them out more. Was crowded and we got pushed and bashed by people a lot by people attempting to get to the barrier (which was shoulder to shoulder) Good gig but shit locale. Any other venue I'll go to but slane sorry we won't be returning.

I camped with mates, first time doing that but I was glad we did when I saw the queues of cars lined up and going nowhere well after midnight.

I was at GnR 2 years ago and this seemed at least as busy. Both times I was in the gold circle but yesterday was definitely more crowded and rough. Constant struggle to keep your place.

Band were brilliant of course, though I do think Kirk hit a few bum notes. The LED backdrop was wasted for most of the gig, seeing as it was still bright until after 9, but once the sun went down you saw what an impressive set it was. The lasers and fireworks were amazing.

Roscrea

As a a performance Metallica were way better than GnR. The light show & pyrotechnics were amazing. We were halfway up the hill & sound was fine & the screens worked fine.

Even though Metallica themselves only looked like dots on the horizon, being so far back gave an excellent view of the lightshow & fireworks & we could see the screens perfectly.

I think if they had opened with Master of Puppets & then on to Sad But True & For Whom the Bell Tolls it would've set a much livelier pace for the crowd & got them going.

Between that & the small gaps between songs I felt the first half dragged, but the second half was amazing.

I also think they should've held Whiskey in the Jar back to near the end & it would've gotten a much bigger reaction.

Overall (in my opinion) a very good gig that with a few changes could've been a great gig. Still glad I went though & well worth the money.

Camping was the only way to go. I noticed that this year they were sending campervans & caravans to a different site from cars & vans, maybe because of the wet weather & the hill in the campsite.

Did anyone come into the campsites after 10 am Saturday? They had notice up of complete road closures after 10 am which I think was a unfair for anyone who may have had to work Friday night or Saturday morning before the gig.
