Bands and songs you're supposed to like

Have you ever had people look at you like you have four heads for not liking bands and songs that 'everyone' likes?

The Beatles and David Bowie do absolutely nothing for me, with the exception of Helter Skelter.

I hate Hotel California and the song I despise most in the world is American Pie.

What's yours?

A bit contraversal I know but U2 are shite in comparison to Big Country. There, I said it. Of course, Irish country music is up there with Indian and Chinese restaurant music, pure crapola!

Agree with Beatles, but Bowie is the dogs bollix. Love him.

U2 have not had anything decent since Joshua tree album.

And I will just put this out there.... Erasure?

Ah but good music and bad music is relevant to an individual's point of view.

Many would argue that Bowie is the greatest but he does nothing for me, yet I've always loved Rhianna's 'S.O.S', and I'm a guy who loves Death Metal and Black Metal, among a wide variety of genres.

In 2010...Lord Henry was offered AC/DC for Slane when they were touring on the " Black Ice " tour and he had to turn them down cause he already had Oasis booked and had only one a event licence for that year ...

I'm a musician, so maybe it's from a different viewpoint. It's not particularly liking 'an artist or band' it's liking the music, or melody, or lyric. The whole history of the thing.. 'Whiter shade of Pale' for example... where did that come from ? The guitar solo in 'Alone again, Naturally'... even the difference between 'Both Sides Now' sung by Joni Mitchell, listen to her version from the 60's, and then listen to a version she sang when she was 70... completely different 'take' on the exact same song. That's what music is all about, the feeling, what it gives the listener... not 'I fucking hate Death Metal' or 'I can't stand Oasis'... you have to LISTEN to the stuff...

Yeah I'm a musician myself too. Into various genres as I said. I suppose instead of labeling music as 'good' or 'bad', maybe it would be more suiting to say there's music I like, and music I don't like. Some music grabs me, some music does nothing for me.

Great to have a good mix

I'm going to Metallica but I've also been to Gemma Hayes, Mick Flannery, The Frames, Aslan, AC!DC, Pearl Jam, Ray LaMontagne, Jools Holland, Florence and The Machine, Rudimental, Faithless, Bell X1, The Dubliners, Megadeth, Paul Weller, Stereophonics, Rod Stewart, Something Happens, U2 (yes I love Bad, Fuck ye if you can't appreciate it ), Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones, Guns n Roses, Mamas Boys, Accept, Steve Earle, Shanty Dam, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Vintage Trouble, Steve Winwood, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Ellie Goulding and many others.

Now if that's not a fairly broad musical taste, I don't know what you're looking for.

Well, my list is longer than I put there but in the nutshell I like heavy metal, a bit of punk, rock, jazz, classical, R'n'B, bit of techno from the 90' (very good music for workouts) and oldies...

I have my fav songs and bands but I can write a book about it lol

"Ash, generic dross, am I supposed to like them just because we were born on the same island?"

“1977”?

One of the top 25 albums ever to come out of this island !!

And fucking brilliant live !!

Ed Sheerin has to be on a pedestal when it comes to someone you’re ‘expected’ to like but practically vomit whenever his music is played or even see his name!...... ughhhh

Excuse me while I throw up

Dunboyne & Dublin

Muse.

All sounds the same to me.

I sat through an hour of them at some point and just couldn't get into them.

I don't know why other than it sounded like the same monotonous noise the whole time.

"There are basically 2 types of music...bad and good.....if you cannot tell the difference, you're not really a music lover...

I can hear good and bad in all genres, well,.......maybe not Mumble Rap, literally music for idiots "

I think Bowie was great. And as general rule all boy bands fall into the catagory you asked about

But my guilty favourites are never forget by take that and house of love by east17.

Most recent was wrecking ball by miley cyrus, couldn't get that out of my head for months!

It’s Sheeran not “Sheerin” Why are you “expected” to like him ? Music is personal, listen to what makes you happy.
