Hey all, new to this whole scene and heard a few talk about the Boilerhouse??! Just wondering what is it and if it's worth a trip?? Thanks

Gay sauna. Unfortunately women and trans are not allowed. Should be illegal to have single gender venues, it's discriminatory.

Why weird I’m comfortable with gay guys but guys just don’t turn me on each person to their own a mixed sauna with the same athmosphere as the boiler house would be great

it certainly would be great, but unlikely ever to happen, hence going to the swinger clubs in the UK is the only option

Why? It’s an establishment for gay men apparently, why shouldn’t gay men be allowed to have just few spaces in the world just for them?

Sure outside of Dublin every club in Ireland is a gay sauna or bath house or whatever you want to call it as it's bread and butter opening itself purely to swingers once a week fortnight or month.

I can't see why the boiler house wouldn't do that I mean it's smack bang in the city centre

Why thank god? I'm sorry but it's 2019 that sounds very discremonatory, imagine it was turned on it's head and a place where gay men where excluded there'd be up roar, I'm not taking about taking it over just maybe once in a whole the venue is used for a swing event

I wouldn’t bother responding to that nonsense buddy.

The conversation does bring an interesting idea though. A location in the city that once a month or even 3 months discreet swing events could be held in many ways similar to Nimhneach.

Because it is a part of the history of gay life and culture in Dublin, and I think that should be kept. I'd be fine if there were female only saunas

To answer the original question, its a gay sauna, has private cabins for fun, or a few public areas if you're into watching or being watched, or group fun. Has porn playing on screens. Its clean enough, the staff are friendly and helpful, you can chill out, very rarely any pressure from anyone, 99.9% of guys are respectful if you say no, but get the occasional weirdo. No alcohol served or allowed to be brought in. Condoms and lube are provided, as are towels

No one said female only either I was talking about a mixed night... One night a month or something didn't think that was such a wild idea as it works well in Limerick and Cork.

Also it wouldn't change anything about the club and it would still be part of gay culture in Dublin. I'm just really shocked by your reply it came across actually as hetreophobic.

First of all, heterophobia is not a thing. That's like saying there should be "Straight Pride".

The Boilerhouse is one of TWO places in Dublin (that I know of anyway) that only allows gay and bi men. That means there are thousands of other places where mixed groups can go. We've already lost most of our gay bars etc so the straights (especially women), why can't we have a place where its exclusively gay/bi men?

Because its 2019, we're supposed to be all for equality now.

Believe or believe it not heterophoboa is massive you've actually shown a lot of it especially referring to a group as the "straights" is that not a Kin to saying the gays?

By a swingers night once month you hardly lose the cultural identify but that bit of integration might allow for a longer lasting business

To me that sounds mad, the whole lgbtq community and others have been campaigning for years for equality and integration yet you are essentially willing to turn on one and other at times. Why not allow bi and lesbian women in are they not classed as equal or are they seen as something different? Some other commenters were straight lads going in, they wernt stopped?

Fair enough it's the owners club he can do what he wishes with it and being straight I ve no intention of going but I just can't understand how people that March down streets and campaign for equality are the very ones willing to stand up and say to someone else that their sexuality/gender is unwelcome. To me that's the definition of hypocrisy.

And secondly there is a certain element of hetrophobia, I was out around Christmas and was accused by a gay man of "what would I know I'm only a straight man" if that had been the other way around I'd be arrested for it for some hate crime. I'd be all for a straight pride, I'm as proud to be straight as alot of lgbtq are of their sexuality. Be gay be straight be whatever but don't say your all for equality and then exclude that's utter bullshit.

Be a great place to run a big meet and greet perhaps?

Sure outside of Dublin every club in Ireland is a gay sauna or bath house or whatever you want to call it as it's bread and butter opening itself purely to swingers once a week fortnight or month.

I can't see why the boiler house wouldn't do that I mean it's smack bang in the city centre Exactly buddy, that was my thinking.

It would never happen. I know the owner and the manager, not a chance they'd let women in, and thank god!

Why thank god? I'm sorry but it's 2019 that sounds very discremonatory, imagine it was turned on it's head and a place where gay men where excluded there'd be up roar, I'm not taking about taking it over just maybe once in a whole the venue is used for a swing event

Because it is a part of the history of gay life and culture in Dublin, and I think that should be kept. I'd be fine if there were female only saunas

OK fine its a "men who have sex with men" sauna then.

What about those clubs etc who let women in for free but charge men? Surely that's discrimination? Why's nothing being said about that?

Straight people do not go through the same things as LGBTQIA+ people. Have you ever been attacked, discriminated against etc because of your sexuality? I doubt it. That's why Pride exists, to show solidarity against that shit

I totally get pride and I'm all for it, I've been discriminated against for a multitude of reasons, been attacked with a knife so totally understand showing solidarity

As for women getting into places for free that's outrageous but not the issue at hand here.

Believe or believe it not heterophoboa is massive you've actually shown a lot of it especially referring to a group as the "straights" is that not a Kin to saying the gays?

By a swingers night once month you hardly lose the cultural identify but that bit of integration might allow for a longer lasting business "

There is always glamworld, which seems to be more accepting of all and their sexualities. I haven't been to either, but if the boilerhouse was full of guys with views the same as boyfordaddy, I think I would rather glamworld.

"To answer the original question, its a gay sauna, has private cabins for fun, or a few public areas if you're into watching or being watched, or group fun. Has porn playing on screens. Its clean enough, the staff are friendly and helpful, you can chill out, very rarely any pressure from anyone, 99.9% of

guys are respectful if you say no, but get the occasional weirdo. No alcohol served or allowed to be brought in. Condoms and lube are provided, as are towels"

Thanks for answering questions, thread went a little off track there, sounds deadly in fairness

In conclusion

Respect that it's a gay men only venue.

But if there were a swinger night, with m and f (like a libertine club in paris), that might well work and the owner would be the wealthier for it.
