yes, the more they groom and wash their face, the more fungus and bacteria can grow, as the natural oils and acids on the face/hair are removed.

Knowing a large percentage of men do not wash their hands after using urinals then shake their hands with other men as well as touch random objects in public and occasionally run their fingers through their beard- yes, I would believe that beards can be dirtier than dogs.

Women don't touch their faces as often not to ruin their make up.

Beardless men are generally cleaner simply due to no hairs to catch and trap as much bacteria as beard hair does.

No matter how clean a person is and how frequently they wash their hands - there's always someone else who doesn't who are only a handshake away...

I generally have a well trimmed and shaped beard though from every so often will have a cut throat shave at the barbers and once even let a date shave me. Its personal choice and also great if it matches the other persons preference as well.

So a beard is unhygienic? Better get rid of all your other body hair too, including your head. Utter nonsense. If you're well groomed and clean or a dirty bigger, a beard is making sod all difference.

I would go see a barber and get them to give you a tidy up, and just say you want to keep growing it but not to look disheveled.

I keep mine trimmed at grade 2 and run some coconut oil through every so often to keep it soft.
