Whilst I agree in principal that it's a good idea can't every imagine donating my veiny organ for any purpose and certainly not for research purposes. Your thoughts ? Discuss....

Great idea, I’ve signed away everything as I won’t need it when I’m gone and hope it can be benifit to many families when I’m gone.

I am on the organ donor list and encourage others to do the same.

My niece, who is such a little bundle of joy, had a heart transplant at just a few months old.

My partner whom passed away was on the donor list and it was comforting to learn that her donations helped a young woman and a middle aged man regain full sight.

I won't need my organs when I'm gone so if, through death, I can help somebody else live or improve their quality of life then why not.

I'm an organ donor and also every month I donate platelets which helps people who are going through chemo you won't need your organs when you are dead so why not let them help people who are less fortunate

We never know when us or a member of our family will need an origin. So they can take what they can get out of me when I'm gone.

That's if I haven't abused it too much before then!

I'm an organ donor, can't see why anyone wouldn't want to be. Feck all use 6 foot under when it could keep someone living and make a lot of people happy. Liver won't be much use thought

I think the government should introduce the opt out system, ie if you don’t actively opt out you are considered a donor. So important. Donating blood too. You never know when you or a loved one might be the recipient x

Organ donor as well as a regular blood donor here. Doesn't cost me any effort to potentially save lives, don't see a single reason not to do it.

What's the legislation around organ donating is it as strict as blood donations? I ask purely because I'm fascinated with the amount of screening these days gay men aren't allowed donate blood if they've had sex within 12 months? Now is it the same for organ donation... And how would they know anyway if it was a donation post mortem? I know some countries have more modern laws on this subject too

Some countries allow living donations (no family connection) where you just donate your kidney to someone who needs it..incredible gift

Totally agree . . Have discussed it with my kids and we all agree that they also will be donors (obviously hoping it will never happen).

Unfortunately I can no longer give blood in Ireland as I lived in the U.K. in the 90’s. Don’t think it effects organ donations though?

my bro in law was supposed to have signed his body over to medical science but he must not have signed the papers properly and we could do nothing about it .

It should be done as an 'Opt out' system instead.

My late husband had 2 transplant operations . First one he received double lung and heart in new castle. Then 3 years later received a single lung . Which kept him alive for the next 12 years . He got to enjoy things he never thought he would see like the birth of his little boy and get married . We spent days weeks and months in the Mater hospital . We lost so many friends that were waiting on lung transplants . So please give your organs they could save a few lives and families .
