So, I typically like to meet for a drink before planning anything more intimate. Some do coffee meets but I like to dress up and hit a bar to suss someone out. Some guys are reliable and once a date is arranged they reconfirm on the day and all is good. However, unfortunately, majority are a little on the flakey side and the excuses are absolutely hilarious to the point of an actual LoL. I never go anywhere first for it to be a 'did they see you and think no?'. It's a sheer case of the guy with balls shrivelling at the thought of meeting a lady in control of the situation.

So, in that vein, what's the funniest excuse you've ever heard?

My list is on our profile but the most elaborate one was just last night, apparently he ended up in hospital with broken ribs, twisted knee and a possible collapsed lung. Sent a pic from a hospital bed ... all in time when A&E are in a total crisis but he managed to get a bed and his hair was all done and not a scratch on him. I asked him was the motorbike a write off and he replied 'who said anything about a bike?'... well you did send me a pic of your bike just 2 hours ago saying you were heading out on it

Let me hear your experiences... if you've had them xx

Not an excuse from a proposed meet admittedly but when I organised a wee social I got a message afterwards from someone who had been invited that said they had made the trip, arrived at the venue but "didn't see anyone who looked like a Fabber" so they left

Another messaged during it to say they'd just been burgled but the better part of me wants to believe that!

We believe because we have that intention. Call it being so naive

Rarely get excuses like that, from people I never met trying to fob me off, people who I want to meet, meet me.

I have gotten a lot of very strange excuses from people and I know the excuses to be true.

Its my opinion that bad luck always strikes people as they are about to walk out the door and go somewhere fun.

It a fab related one but I was dropped last minute with the excuse “my son is sick”. I pointed out that I worked with her ex and he had the son over the weekend. Her reply? “Well I know that. I’m just worried”. Next day she posted photos of her night out with mates in Instagram.

Actually got a similar excuse to that one OP but about 4 years ago only problem the scar was still sort of showing in his profile pictures , before the accident picture he showed us that caused it.

I really don't know but I'm inclined to go with the latter. It's a power trip. I feel I call the shots and dictate the way the setup will be and I think I intimidate them so they have to take the control back.

At the end of the day they give no fooks about how that makes someone feel. It takes a bit of arranging, you get excited and then you feel like sh1t when it doesn't happen. People need go take responsibility but alas that's a world peace type statement.

Well this is exactly what happened to me on my way to an event and I was meeting a fabber that afternoon. Planned for about 2 months. Spent 3 months recovering. Fortunately the hotel was reimbursed. Spent a week in Oxford and 3 months on morphine and tramadol.

Sometimes it's true. And my bike? Panniers damaged, top box broken, crash bar took all the damage. Only thing broken was the wing mirror and spot lights.

I have arranged a meet in the morning once and literally just after saying good night my boss called and asked me to cover an emergency shift at 8am. May have looked like a lame excuse to the person..

To be fair mornings might be a different thing. Getting a callout at 6.30 on a Sunday evening when drinks are at 7.30 and you've not mentioned that could potentially happen.. then I call shenanigans

Another horrible excuse - death in a family.

So far I've got 3 of those.

First time I genuinely believed it, but when it started reoccurring with different people. ... hmmm

They say death happens in 3's, so I would not get suspicious until the 4th death.

Sometimes life takes twisted turns , why think it's a fake excuse ?

I had something going on for drinks out last Saturday and few people that couldn't attend texted saying in the end they couldn't come , I didn't thought it was excuses .

Outside fabs we all had last minute issues cancelling plans so why think in here it's different ?

Once I was going to travel from here on the last bus to get the last bus to northern Ireland for Xmas with my family , guess what my first bus broke down so I didn't make it , now if it was for a fabs meet would you believe it or think it was just a time waster excuse
