If you want to go somewhere nice for food try “the barking dog”. Doesn’t get much better and isn’t too expensive

What on earth is so special about Kelly's cellars?

Everyone is raving about it but seriously am I missing something?

I only drink Guinness when I'm out. Been drinking Guinness only for over 10 years. Kelly's cellars Guinness does not taste any different to me from any other places (except for dodgy little hidden spots where Guinness use is so rare it goes stale)

Stick to the Cathedral Quarter OP and you won't go far wrong. In saying that there are lots of great pubs in town now. Depends what you are after

I had a Turkish friend over visiting for two weeks. I brought him to Kelly's Cellar because I heard people saying that they do the best Guinness in town.

Joked to the barmaid "Rumour has it that you do the best Guinness in Belfast." To which she giggled and said that indeed they do. Ordered two pints and my friend and I really didn't think much of it. Was rather disappointing actually.

I then brought him to Fibber Magees out the back of Robinson's Bar as I remember being there one night and drinking Guinness. Now I must say that I am not a huge fan of Guinness but on that night years ago I decided to try one based on the high recommendation by my friend I was with. I thought the Guinness was so good that I continued drinking pints of it all night. Usually I would switch to something else.

So anyway, my Turkish friend and I went into Fibbers and I ordered us a pint of Guinness each. With our pints in hand just as we were finding seats my friend asked me "But how exactly do you know a good Guinness if you taste one?"

I told him "Trust me! You will know good Guinness once you taste it".

As we sat down we both took our first sips, gave each that look as he nodded his head and said "Ok now I understand what you mean" while I said "Yep, that is good Guinness".

Then we got pissed and had to get a taxi home even though my house was walking distance. The end.

So yeah. Fibber Magees does the best Guinness I have tasted in Belfast, so much so that I can drink their's all night despite not being a Guinness fan.

They'll even do a wee Shamrock or Heart shape in the foam on top for ya if you ask them nicely.

Definitely recommend going to cathedral Quarter for a night out. We'd recommend the Sunflower, hands down one of our favourite places to have a night out.

Sorry OP as didn't mean for my posting to detract away from your initial question.

The places mentioned by FoxyVixen and YoungCouple are all great spots to go to. The Cathedral quarter has an abundance of places as already mentioned though on weekends a lot can be quite crowded and hard to get into.

As well as the places mentioned above I would also recommend Filthy McNastys, nice decor and atmosphere and also has a large beer garden.

Laverys back bar is also a good wee spot and the top floor in Laverys with all the pool tables and the smoke area is also a good relaxed hangout.

Really just depends what exactly you are looking for. Hope you enjoy the trip to Belfast.
