Seriously lad.. you really need to read up on your Irish history. Congo 1960. 9 Irish soldiers killed, cut to pieces and eaten by militia in the jungle while on a NATO peace keeping mission. 2 of my Uncles were stationed there at the time and had to search and bring home what ever bodies and body parts they could repatriate to the families back home in Ireland. One of my uncles still talked about it right up until he died 2 years ago as it affected him so much, the other uncle, I never met as he took his own life 2 months after he came home at the age of 25 as he suffered from PTSD. We live in a peaceful country which I think you take for granted.

" That's more a reason to lament the absolute shocking state of our civil services that a little snow or rain cant be handled. Our defence force left Irish waters unprotected to go ship migrants into Italy, and our Army looked the other way as Israel marched on the golan heights. We should be ashamed, and just do what we should have done to begin with and kept our military in Irish airspace/waters and land.

No point having and irish army..our army would be overrun very easily by the brits or some other superpower thats why we are a neutral country or are we? If ireland really was a neutral country they wouldnt be sending their citizens "peace keeping" in far flung places like congo..i dont understand peace keeping ..if 2 sides want to kill each other then just let them..dont get in the middle..i suppose its like trying to break up a d*unken fight on a saturday night youll always come off the worst..if i was a soldier id rather die in war than die peace keeping...

"As op said originally thanks to all who worked yesterday and gave up their Xmas day with family whther they army, gardai, nurse, doctors etc. Thanks everyone that did work yesterday whether you agree with their job etc it's still a big thing to give up the day, to some it's not important to others it is. I worked yesterday and had my dinner at 8pm last night with my family and will admit it wasn't the same. But I'm grateful for my job, grateful for the wage I get and been able to keep a roof over my head and provide for my family. So happy Christmas and thanks again x"
