Why the teeth???

Ok, so.... the purpose of this thread...... every part of the human body heals except for one which are the teeth.

What are your thoughts on the why of that?

There could be religious reason and there could also be scientific reason and anything in-between. I'm just curious to hear different ideas.

Anybody replying, please keep your answer neat and non-offensive (if possible). We all have our own view points but what is better is when we can respect others. Ta.

Teeth take abuse 24/7 365 days a yr for your whole life....your teeth are under constant attack from food...fluids and also your own body fluids...obviously your enamel is the outer layer of your teeth...best to keep acidic and sweet foods down to a minimium and floss/brush your teeth atleast twice a day...mouth helps neutralise your mouth....chewing gum can help.

Dunno what religion has to do with the way our bodies wotk or anything biological for that matter....religion is a persons belief in a higher force.

Very good input. It doesn't answer the question though. Why are teeth the only part of the body that doesn't heal? Every other part does.

It's like a big mystery to me. The human body has all the amazing ability to heal every part of the body.....except one. Doesn't make sense (to me).

The reason I mentioned religion, even though I'm not religious myself is that I have heard some crazy assed view points on this subject over the years.

In my eyes teeth are a little like hair or nails, once they grow that's it - they're open to whatever comes at them whatever makes them slowly rot away.

Nature designed them to be enough to last a lifetime and mostly they actually do so there's not much of a need to heal itself. I mean, look at wild animals with only few exceptions there's very far and few species that have tooth problems.

Natural diet has a lot to do with it.

Also a very good input but yet it still doesn't answer the initial question. Interesting info though. Thanks for that.

Best answer so far. Hair and nails do grow back though. Teeth don't. It's a bafflement . Why that one thing? Everything else does.

Technically they do. Baby teeth fall out to be replaced by ones to last. Why they don't grow back? There's not much need for it.

Arms and fingers don't grow back if you cut them off either

Very good answer. Now I have to hold my hands up. Never actually thought of it that way but always like to learn.

To take it further though.... arms and fingers may not grow back but they heal to a certain cut off point (no pun intended). Teeth do not though. What's with that?

As I said in my previous reply - they're like hair and nails. Once they're out - That's it. It's up to you to either preserve them or abuse them

Finger nails always grow back through life and hair always grows back up to the point where the follicles die. Teeth do not though. Once they are gone they are gone.

Try to pull out your fingernail out completely. I'm sure it won't grow back..

Same as hair. Once the follicle is dead - That's it.

Only reason body produces new follicles is either through hormonal or environmental changes.

Nails evolved for protection and scavenging, hair - for warming you up. Both life or death aspects through evolution.

You could still swallow food without teeth so they're not essential in basic every day survival.

I've lost a complete finger nail before and it's grown back .

I expect if we cared for teeth by the book in every way they'd last for life ..

I've often wondered if to much brushing wears them out .

Cats n dogs don't brush and they seem to get by

Some days I just mouthwash to give them a break ...I mouthwash with toothpaste .

To be completely honest - I only use toothpaste about once a week.

Only give my teeth and tongue a quick brush wirh a bare toothbrush daily and just leave them alone.

Drink anything fizzy with a straw and don't eat sweets.

Whitened them once many years ago just for kicks.

Don't have a single hole or complaint about them.

People overuse toothpaste (I do love the fresh breath thing) but it does more damage than good with the sheer amount of crazy chemicals in it..

I've had fingernails totally crushed and pulled out on two incidents. Was interesting. They did end up growing back (thankfully).

And yep I used to have mad hair styles including mad spikes and various hair colours until I killed the hair follicles off with all the chemicals.

You've been a great chit chat. Thanks for that.

We're all spinning in different directions. What was the initial question? Lol

I love your input on the forums though. You're honest umlike many others. Thank you.

Enamel is not a living tissue and cannot regenerate unlike other body parts, once it's gone it gone as they say in the advert.

I think it's gotta do with how much verbal shite they gotta put up with. No matter how good your dental hygiene is that's one thing that you can't protect against!
