The hotlist is the best way to direct the updates, first from the profiles you like or are curious about.

My hotlist is purely aesthetic. The folk I add to mine are men, women and couples (here and in the UK) who regularly upload exceptionally beautiful photos. My hotlist updates are like a private art gallery I visit each morning, displaying new and exquisite works of fine art.

Some folk I've even been lucky enough to meet and upgrade to my friend's list over the years

I don't use the hotlist as I think it's pointless really. Much prefer the becoming friends option. Chat, become friends, you get their status/pic/meet updates etc and if you have not met them already then hopefully you will in the future.

Well there’s that but for some of the ones on mine I’ve filed them away as we haven’t chatted yet and I want to be able to find them again!!
