Gone too far. Trying to ban songs for a word. Fairytale of New York.

Ban or censor? Because they are two very different things, the lyrics should be censored before the watershed

They usually are ... theres a radio friendly version of most songs that contain profanity

Yeah.

We are a far right wing, increasingly liberal, globalist, country so are following the Americans.

The influencers and media are replacing left wing, socialist theology (for example free great medical care, child payments for everyone) with right wing equivalents, (for example everyone paying for health insurance from a private company and sourcing our medical staff from private companies).

This leads to the situation where virtue signalling is more important than anything else.

Is anyone in 2018 actually trying to ban it though?

Ive seen this floating around facebook a bit, saying "they" are trying to ban it, but cant find a single radio station or tv station who actually is considering anything more than censoring it.

Even shane mcgowan agrees it should be beeped out as its a derogatory term, but i dont think anyone of any interest trying to ban it.

The irish censorship board (or whoever) would literally have to ban 1000s of song/movies and tv if it were to put a ban on material like this, so im not worried.

Shane McGowan didn't actually say he thinks it should be bleeped out. What he said is that he doesn't mind if radio stations do and that he doesn't want to get in an argument about it.

Personally I think it's PC gone mad to bleep out any of the words.

I dont see how beeping Fa**ot is PC gone mad.

What if it had been the "N" word would it be ok not to beep it because its a Christmad favorite

It's been played for the past thirty years without a murmur. Then a radio station bans 'Baby It's Cold Outside' and the PC brigade look to see what else they can get their teeth into.

Language evolves, with it what os acceptable and isnt changes.

Its certainly not the first time I have heard a conversation about the work being used.

Sure it wasnt legal for gay people to marry for years either why bother changing anything

To be honest,I think there's a double standard at play...

It's okay to play the video on Childish Gambino "This is America" on youtube without any age restrictions which shows horrific violence, yet one word out of a song (like fairytale) written a generation ago and someone takes offence

...how did I ever survive childhood?

Its been banned by radio stations in the US, and some stations here because some of its lyrics are a little bit on the sexual assaulty side

There's nothing assaulty in it imo, but predatory and pushy if you want to say so. However this is taking a song out of its historical context and applying the #metoo movement.

I think the banning and censoring is crazy stuff.

Dublin / Cork

Nurses no longer able to great patients with terms of affection like Hun , love , darling , pet .

Songs being censored because someone things the words are offensive . If you don't like the song turn it off .

These Millenials who get offended by everything need to grow up. This country is going so far left that we will end up in the same position as Scandinavia and the uk and us where we will end up voting in far right people because people can only get pushed so far . Our freedoms are getting slowly taken away because this pc brigade have to be seen to be activists about something and getting attention .

Nor do I in that song, he asked why and I answered.

I personally dont see an issue with beeping the words Fa***t and Slut from a song just like they would be in a modern rap song
