But unfortunately she did not wish to make contact back.

that's sad too but parents don't have to be biologically related I'm sure your brother was well loved by his parents who cared for him all his life.

I have an older sister that i only found out about before Christmas gone , she was adopted out of a mother & baby home back in the day. I got some shock when she managed to contact me because i never knew anything about it. All good now though. The mother since passed on but didn’t want to meet her when contacted. I thought that so wrong, but some people that’s just their way.

It's not really that cold to not want to contact someone you gave up for adoption.

There is no need to paint them as bad people.

Its a bit of a non starter to expect them to throw the door open with a hug when someone comes to find them, this should not be an expectation to have.

I disagree it’s awfully cold

I know catholic Ireland ruled this country but after carrying a child for 9 months giving birth to it seeing it and to have had no choice to give it up for adoption would break me anyway

Maybe it’s the older generation were a tougher breed than us but how could you close the door on your own flesh and blood I’m sure you would be wondering all their life were they ok were they treated well did the parents they get adore them as much as I would have had..?

I watch the lost families on tv and every story breaks my heart but to see them reunite is amazing best of luck to all of you

Can I ask if aborting the baby would break you? With liberal left wings ruling the country you feel the new accepted view that if you don't want them they are not even a life form, that you can have their spine snipped and have them thrown in a bin is less cold?

These people are such cold bastards for seeing it as a life growing inside them and giving that life a chance, they are monsters.

It's great that you enjoy TV shows made to thug at your heart, but it should not be the expected or default view that reuniting should happen and anyone who does not is cold. It's more like a hard decision and they have accepted their stance a long time ago, and they can probably look themselves in the mirror easier than all the non catholic liberals who have to seek out mental health care after aborting their babies.

But that's just my view.

Giving up for abortion is good, not being able to or wanting to reunite is fine.

Have you tried contacting them op?

Children before marriage here was a big no no back in the day

Your mother could have been very young and unaware she was pregnant til it was too late to plan a wedding,a wedding with a bump would have been scandalous in some areas here up until very recently really

Her parents would have had a very big say in what happened to you too I'm sure

It's so horrible to see how people clutched to conservative lifestyles for so long despite the serious damage it continued to cause.

Looking back to when I was a kid and things my dad would do and say sickens me. Highly religious but so callous because he was so brainwashed by the church.

OP, if you haven't already I'd check in with a counsellor for some guidance and to release some of your thoughts. Although speaking to someone with similar experiences is helpful, it may not give you the answers professional counselling could give you.

I was too. I have been lucky enough to have found my birth Mum and Dad. We gave a great relationship now. I found out I have 2 sisters and a brother. Both my parents are still together. My Mum was 14 when when she got pregnant with my Dad. Once she gave birth her parents put me up for adoption.

A very good friend of mine had a similar situation. He was given up for adoption and his parents later married and had other children . Him birth mother is in contact with his adopted mother and he has met her over the years but his loyalty lies with his adopted parents . His birth mother is desperate to have a closer relationship with him , but he just doesn’t feel it . And I get the sense that his birth father isn’t that interested . It’s really really complicated . I feel for everyone in these situations . It’s not easy , and most of the time we really shouldn’t judge unless we’re in it and know the situation . It was pretty shit years ago if you got pregnant outside marriage .

What a shitty society we used to live in when families and young parents felt this was forced upon them.

What a pathetic establishment the catholic church is/was to support and condone this.

Its embarassing.
