Micheal D Higgins said he does not draw his Dole Pension or his Ministerial Pension ,

After drawing down 542,000 per annum on salary and discretionary spend.

Is he actually allowed draw these Pensions too if he wished to do so ?

This is corrupt ireland some ministers own companies as well and also being landlords they can claim whatever they like as nobody will stand up to them or expose them.

No he doesn't draw his TDs pension or his Senator's pension... He does draw his pension from ucg.. That was a contributory pension he paid into and amounts to 19000 a year... He uses that to pay off the mortgage on his house... How many people would refuse to draw the other two pensions? I don't know... But this is the system... If you want a change maybe the Irish people should stop re-electing FF and FG every single time... Just a thought

Fuck I need a cushy civil service job, I pay decent money into a pension but even by the time I reach the age where I can start drawing on it I won't receive enough per week to live off.

I don't have a pension... I don't think they are worth it... Maybe a little apartment you can rent out in your later years would be more beneficial?

Is it not the case that if he does not draw it down it just gets backlogged as an entitlement.

ie. If he reaches the age of 90 he can claim the whole lot back in one day?

or if he dies his next of kin can claim it?

Shouldn't he be judged on wheater he will represent our country better than those running agaisnt him. It's not like he lied about sleeping with his secretary. I'm sure when he took the first term he thoughy he wouldn't be able for another. Right now he is a far better face and voice for our country than the rest.

He should be judged on the man he is and not the perceptions of him as an independent socialist with the working people in his mind.

He has FG ministers handing out his leaflets on the street, hardly independent. He lies about his finances and like all FG/FF backed people says he did not get a payment when he means the payment was differed. He hosts billionaires to dinner in the presidential house and after the dinner has adopted policies the billionaire has openly endorsed.

He has rallied against our constitution multiple times, from human rights, to our neutrality. Fully backed by FG in his efforts to do so.

Vote for him on them grounds, don't vote for him as an honest man who refused his pension and is one of us.

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't vote for him but I think that particular point is more of a sound bite used by his opponents rather than a genuine reason for him to step out of the race

And there's some peeps going on about the travellers while the real issue is burried completely somewhere else.

Has anyone ever wondered how much tax this Peter Casey is paying, I bet feck all, running an international company.

Also no outcry when the Revenue Commissioners published recently the newest figures on the super rich in this country paying fuck all tax.

Politicians running a lovely gravy train in this country and corruption is rampant.

1 in 5 TDs are landlords with FG leading the list, and you wonder why there's nothing done about the homeless crisis and the rents spiralling.

Just to mention a few...

Spot on, one of the politicians mantras: misdirection misdirection misdirection. And as for the presidential office being above politics!! more like under it over it and inside it. What a waste of money keeping a little leprachaun in the park on an all expenses 7 year journey and for what? and I quote from his recent interview on radio "Well Pat, I leave in the real world". As donkey said in Shrek, "Pick me, pick me", I'll gladly live in YOUR real world

Rant over, now back to enjoying some funny witty chat

He can only serve 2 terms so can't run again.

On the pension front, in the Pat Kenny Debate , Kenny stated to him that he is restricted from receiving his government pensions while President which he denied. Kenny seemed to think this was the case.

Either way he is a Champaign socialist who should never be allowed to take the piss again with his 3,000Euro a night hotel rooms and 10,000Euro spent on grooming his dogs. Who knows what other luxuries he's had on the our taxes.
