cavan town

Personally I think overuse is lazy and childish. A few words here and there is grand with a few emojis but to read a whole paragraph written in text speak just gives me a headache. Quicker to write but sometimes can take forever to decipher what the hell they are talking about. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Not sure if it counts as text speak, but the word 'Bae' does my nut in

Most of the time text speak doesnt phase me but in certain cases its just too much.. cant remember it off the top of my head but theres some 5 letter word ive seen abbreviated to.. a 5 letter word just written arseways. Why?!

A few words here and there is fine but not whole sentences or paragraphs! There’s soneone I know and she does it AND she’s a teacher!

Text speak goes back to when you had 3 letters per key and typing long messages was a pain in the rear.

Now it's just lazy and immature.

Even the kids seem to be past it!

Ah sure now...

Aggghhhh - the one thing that gets me worked up.

Abbreviations and text speak are two different things.'Accom.' means accommodate / accommodation depending n the context, and to me is an acceptable abbreviation... but Gr8, and w8, and....aaaggghhh.

That said, we had S.W.A.L.K back in the day when we just had handwritten letters.

I too absolutely detest text speak . I love a good conversation where I don't have to decipher what someone is saying.

My sentiments exactly, don't mind occasional emojis or the odd abbreviation, but use language as its meant to be used, its a tool to communicate, not a morse code

She should be banned from teaching in case she passes that onto impressionable minds, (I'm Joking) I'm slow to use even emojis.... smiley face smiley face

I just have a problem with people doing it as a lazy way of communicating, we all have spelling or grammar mistakes

I don't mind text talk but I never use it because I take pride in my written word. I would have thought/hoped it projects a better impression... although sometimes I do wonder if good English sounds too rigid

I actually hate it. I am dyslexic and I struggle really bad with spelling and grammar but I always try my best. It makes reading a message for me really difficult. I am far from stupid and would have a very high IQ but at times I really can not read text abbreviations ...... and it's also lazy.

Predictive text was a great invention, there really is very little logic to using text speak at all anymore not that I ever used it back in the early to mid 00's.

Think it depends on nature of message, audience. Don't mind text speak if it within a brief message, it is not overused within message and it not some obscure text speak that I need to google. Lilred

I don’t particularly like it myself but in saying that I wouldn’t judge anyone as I’ve found in the past a lot of people cannot spell so it’s easier to text speak or are dislexic ... so it’s easier way to communicate
