Regardless of your views and beliefs do you think the papal visit went well ? I found my self strangely attached to the media coverage over the last few day and in fairness I think Ireland put on a fair old show for the world

Cards estimates 130k in the park that's a far cry from 79 numbers so I don't think so

Avoided most of it but just read a piece where he met with survivors of abuse and was very sincere and remorseful. The church to some is important and their faith and thats their choice. I just think the cost of it could have been better spent but than again it would have found a different use not where the money is needed.

Dunboyne & Dublin

Just saw a bit on news tonight. Seems he said what most hoped for but he certainly didn't get the audience size predicted.

Shame about the money spent.

Denis O'Brien's Actavo(formerly Siteserv) got the contract for all the barriers and stuff.

I think it went very well, it's a bit like the rose of tralee, most people flicked over for a peek but don't admit doing so.

With all the money the church has you think if he wanted to visit the church would foot the bill.

Fucking arseholes.

Seems there were more people at Trump's inauguration than there were for the Pope's visit.

He's gonna milk that forever when he finds out.

I've avoided coverage as much as possible, it doesn't interest me.

I didn't actively follow any of it but got little bits about it here and there.

I think the most interesting thing I discovered about it is how we all have different perspectives.

Where some see the pope as this holy figure who represents god and think it's great that he payed us a visit, I see him as the head of one of the most, if not the most, corrupt criminal organization on the planet that has caused far more suffering to the world than any good they've ever done.

Would people be so welcoming if the head of The Mafia visited us for a few days and we put on a song and dance for him?

That's essentially what happened.

But because his title is 'Pope' then it's all good.

Just an observation I made.

Only to tell him to get the fuck out of it.

One of the biggest corporations on the planet that prey and profit on peoples fears and use money donated out of fear to cover up corporate pedophilia.

And then you have thousands of people flocking to his every word.

I need to stop replying before I say anything more

Yes, it's interesting how people can cling to their faith and turn a blind eye to the clear corruption in the entire hierarchy of the organisation. Faith is one thing, denial is another. One can believe in a higher being without following the dictates of fallible humanity.

"One can believe in a higher being without following the dictates of fallible humanity."

This exactly.

Why do people need/want to be told who and how to believe?

Look deep inside yourself and your instinct will lead you on the right path for you. No middle man required.

Because they don't want to take responsibility for themselves?

There wasn't an undertaking to open up the church's records to scrutiny so the apologies were rather empty and did nothing to ease the pain of those looking to trace their birth mothers or bring their attackers to justice. All the pomp and ceremony was a slap in the face for those seeking justice.

My faith is in God, not people, and especially not people who run or support a criminal organisation that masks itself as religion.
