I am wondering if there is a list of approved topics for discussion within the Forums.

in an effort to keep the peace is it generally accepted that there will be no discussions around; politics, religion, sport, world events, Donald Trump, certain sexual practices, fetish's and jokes that may be deemed non PC are also not acceptable.

Queries around sexual health do appear acceptable and that is to be welcomed.

But what can be discussed, FAB members are from all areas of society, rich poor, professionals, trades people, blue collar workers, un employed and retired.

Fab members have many and varied interested and views which they may like to discuss with fellow, like minded people, so when we get bored with "Favourite Picture" " Hotlist fav" " Say something Nice" etc, what can be openly discussed, surely open discussion on issues of the day or any topic, once it is not abusive or bullying is to be welcomed. The site moderators can always step in & close a thread if they feel there are issues, although I would have an issue with a closed threads being deleted if the OP of the thread has received a ban.

Some interesting points op. Being relatively new on the forum i was curious about this myself.. In everyday life im not usually a passive bystander, but here, i find im more of an observer, than an active participant, im ok with this at the moment, par for the course with anything new, dynamics here have to be understood etc... I think what benefits this type of platform is new members becoming proactive here on the forum,and sharing their experience of life with others here. We all have something to learn, and no doubt we all get offended at times, such is life... Im always open to guidance of course, but id much rather be myself, and not get too caught up in what people may think of me, we all have our vulnerabilities.. Treat others as you would like to be treated debate and discussion is always stimulating, but even this is proving more elusive, than a mail in my postbox

Well thought out post, strictly speaking about forum posts, in my experience almost all forums ( and not just here) everything posted ultimately amounts to nothing, every argument back and forth, every joke, everything, it all just slips down the first page until until it falls off and then its pretty much history at that point.

I guess because this is not the place most people come for lenghty in depth discussion or debate. To be fair I would think most people on here have other outlets for that and come for short brief stimulation. The forums also reflect the type of site at the end of the day its a swinging site and a high majority of people are here for the social side of that not to discuss current affairs

There's a specific forum for politics though which may be better suited for such topics although I agree if within forum rules then they should be allowed

Can't have too much censorship

The problem with the politics forum is that it's British centred and whenever an Irish related topic does come up your eyes would bleed reading the right wing nonsense that appears on it. I used to partake in it but admin tended to remove the dissenting voices as they perversely got the blame for starting the rows. A classic example had to be the guy who reckoned that if there was ever a prospect of Irish unity he was loading his van with explosives and weapons and getting the ferry to Dublin to teach us a lesson. He had a named list of targets to take out, as well as wiping out as many civilians as possible. I expressed amusement at his fantasy and all hell broke loose. He had quite a lot of support on the forum as well.

He was allowed back on the forum before I was.

Seriously that's a bit extreme of him but ya I do imagine Irish politics would not be welcomed very well

I don't see anything wrong with discussing thorny issues here at all. As Sally says, if we all act in a normal adult fashion then it should be ok. Some people lose the run of themselves though.

I do recall discussions here before on things like clerical abuse, industrial schools, the border, etc. Some went ok, some didn't. They were fun though.

The British queen's birthday greetings thread ended with about 20 timeouts though. Now that was a howl.

I don't have any problem with any thread topics being brought up. I think most people are only interested in getting the reply figure as high as possible and judge their "success" on the threads on this. Most of these threads don't interest me at All so I don't post on them. But they are popular threads that a lot of people enjoy so keep 'em coming. I've posted a few serious threads that in the most part were well received. So I think it is possible to have proper discussions on here if people create the right topic

Fully agree with this unfortunately some take themselves bit too seriously on here rather than having a laugh, and interesting discussions often end abruptly when a nerve gets hit although it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.
