I have no recollection at all of the results day, there wasn't the kerfuffle or the pressure back then that there is now.

Best of luck to your young un whatever she decides to do.

No matter what she gets she’ll be fine.

I did a terrible leaving cert, worked on the buildings then went back as a mature student during the crash and thankfully got a job i like now!0

My one here has decided she’s not going back to do 3rd yr of her uni course so we are at a junction...

I did a good leaving but also went back to collage as a mature student. We know theres always options but the day of the results. That knot of fear in your belly and the hope you've done enough.

Not a day I want to relive, but I didn’t have any expectations at the time and it’s hasn’t held me back. Wasn’t the emphasis on college back in the 80’s there is now, wasn’t the jobs either. Great to see things have changed. Good luck to all the kids and to the expectant parents!!

Afew here got results today some delighted others not so much but hey its not the end of the world and they have plenty of time to decide what they want to do. Good luck to all getting results xx

I remember that day very clearly, all of 25 years ago now, I was only 16 sitting the Leaving Cert, still over a month away from turning 17 back in 1993. I didn't achieve the results needed to go straight to college or university but decided to work with what I had, did two years post leaving cert college then started working and over the years have progressed in my career and continuously learned via various other qualifications, etc. There is always a way. Wishing your daughter the very best with her results today OP.

Jesus where did the time go?

I had no interest in college at the time so wasn't too concerned. I remember not studying at all and just going in and winging it.

It was a big deal for my mam though. Not points as such, she knew I had no interest in college, but she just wanted me to pass which I did and everyone was happy.

I did end up going to college years later though.

Best of luck to everyone involved today, students, parents and families.

I didn't give a shit, didn't get out of bed to go get them till like 1pm and the school had shut cause they thought everyone would be jumping out of bed to go get them.

Just looked at them, seen I didnt fail anything and threw them in the bin. If I remember right my day didnt change from normal in any other way. Didn't go out with the guys from school to get d*unk, I had already been accepted into University, had already done and been accepted to plan B, it only added a year onto me getting a BSc, and I got to just cruise through the leaving.

I remember it all being a bit ...meh.... in the end. I had enough points from the metric (remember that) to do what I wanted and those results were out first.

I was working so my mother went and got the results for me.

If thats true then 85% of the people whon did best went to Catholic schools.

Considering over 90% of Irish schools are Catholic, it's not that impressive a stat.

Did a good Leaving Cert so celebrated in style

...First went to see BASIC INSTINCT with the lads on leaving cert night which was Hardcore porn in those days I can tell you

We then went with fake Id to THE PINK ELEPHANT and drank cocktails (think I was pissed by my first )

...rounded off with some Quasar in the 24 Hour Dundrum Bowl

Nursing is very tough as well, my mother is a mental health nurse herself. The job is even harder than the course. Best of luck to her!! Tell her regarding the expensive books that it's better to take pictures of them using her phone and get them professionally printed and binded. Saved me hundreds during my first year.

Does the catholic church not provide toward training most nurses in Ireland? Don't they use St Vincents when attending UCD?

So how is it not relevant?

Surely we can for the day thats in it, thank the catholic church for providing the next generation of smart kids, and next generation of life savers?

Surely we can for the day thats in it, thank the catholic church for providing the next generation of smart kids, and next generation of life savers?"

I'll congratulate my daughters independent determined mind that had many obstacles and difficulties to overcome but she did it anyway. I'll wrap my arms around her and tell her how her wonderful attitude and spirit got her where she is. Im a lucky woman my faith is in the people i love and their spirit. "Is it true that 6 out of the 7 people who did the best in the leaving came from Catholic backed schools?

??? I doubt it but is it relevant. These kids worked hard and did well, congratulate them.

7 kids got all A and it listed all their schools as christian brother schools and former christian brother schools, only Andrews wasn't?

Does the catholic church not provide toward training most nurses in Ireland? Don't they use St Vincents when attending UCD?

So how is it not relevant?

Surely we can for the day thats in it, thank the catholic church for providing the next generation of smart kids, and next generation of life savers?"

So the Catholic Church is entangled in the vast majority of our educational facilities, despite state and public pressure for divestment. The church isn't training nurses, it controls the training institutions. Despite state and public pressure for divestment.

The next generation of smart kids has almost no choice but to go through Catholic institutions. I dint see that as reason to thank the Church. Why do you?
