Ever been really good at something that you hated? Stuck in a rut for the last five years in a job I hate but I'm good at. Best ways to find a new career path?

I guess i'm in the middle. Don't hate it but not passionate about it either! Is there something that you really love and could also ern a decent living out of it? Or else, stick at what you're doing but try and get a better work life balance to make it slightly easier

I work in retail. Scrambling to meet targets so I can get commission to add a small bit extra to my minimum wage. All while dealing with the public (who are mostly assholes) work every single weekend, cannot trust a single person I work with and have absolutely no opportunity of career progression

I’m in hospitality so I know the feeling, I left retail for hospitality. Both sectors are essentially the same for employees, I can’t say I would recommend it! I’d say go back to school and start again! That’s what I’ve just done and so far so good!

Not really, it's sales based job. I took during a time when there were very little jobs in mayo. It hasn't gotten much better but I'm holding out hope

I don't work weekends and don't deal with the public. Very low levels of stress in there but money is never going to be great. I couldn't start a family with it. Be brave and do online courses for jobs that offer a better career and life.

I couldn't work with the public cause in any new situation im really quiet and shy. I literally blush when slightly embarrassed ha. To be honest I'm afraid to start a proper career. Afraid I won't like it and afraid I'll put alot of work in and fail. That and I don't know what I like. I hope you find something you love but you have to be brave when you do.

I'm in retail too so I get the public issues, very few opportunities in the west of Ireland. Factory work is the dream for me except it's all temporary contracts and needing to know someone to get in

There are lots of part time music production courses out there. I done a intro course last year over 10 weeks. Got the bug now to do a more advanced one.

I left a well paid job that I was damn good at to start my own business. Doesn't pay as much but it means I'm not working 8 to god knows what time, 6 days a week, fk all wkends off and fk all bank holidays off. I'm getting by comfortably with lots of free time to do things I love. And I'm hapoy happiness is everything. Money means fk all if you are not happy.

True story I've only got 2 kids so not as busy as you guys on that front. But I can take mine to work and leave them out in the back yard. Once they have a few squeaky toys they are happy out

Yes I have. my advice wouls be to find something you love. maybe your not being challenged enough. I left my job about 18 montha ago and all my family said id regret it but its the best thing i did. Its soul destroying being in a job that bores you.

There are a few part time degrees on it for people who are working but want to up skill. My latest degree was done part time via springboard+ and I was working full time as a design engineer so anything is possible

I work in the same boring office job that I have done for the past 13.5 years. I hated as much as you did after 5. I tried a thing on the side and it didn't work out. I am slowly learning about music part time. I think redundancy is around the corner but you never know. I would get full time into music then.

I'm not even getting good money, I'd stick it out for abit longer if I was better paid. It's just sickening knowing people that make twice as much as me without any effort all because they know the right people who got them cushy jobs

Start looking out for somthing else or approach places that you might like to work because as others have said, its hard for businesses to get good staff at the moment so the ball is in your court so to speak

I changed from a boring job a few years ago, and re educated myself. I love what I do, I'm curious about people, and everyone is different. I'm self employed and could never work for a boss again. I could work in more fast paced cities, but I like the _aid back vibe in the midlands.

I stayed in the same job since I was 16 until my kids were schooled and working as it was secure.

Then I took a chance and applied for new jobs and have since got several promotions and lucky enough to now be on a good salary. I have been very lucky and been in jobs that were very challenging and I do love a challenge.

On the downside, I moved again last year and am now in a job that bores the ass of me lol.

So I have applied for new posts.

It is a risk changing jobs but my view is that I stayed in a job for years to rear my kids which I wwas more than happy to do.

Now it's 'me' time and I want a final challenge in a job before I retire in a few years.

The smaller ones tend to be worse but at the end of the day they're all a nightmare!

Look at possibility of working lass hours & use the time for study, online or classroom based, also look at Springboard courses.

Perhaps it's worth thinking about whether it's your job or job field that you have a problem with, OP, a drastic change may not be necessary, or it could be work-life balance that is the issue.
