Its been many years since I enjoyed a good boxing match on TV. Partly as its now all pay per view and mostly as the fights now are as dull as the personalities.

But if I watch womens boxing I can't help but wince, as it seems wrong for women to be flailing the faces off each other. Anyone else think this..?

"Where do you stand on mud wrestling "

Not sure its all that easy to stand when mud wrestling; all that mud glistening off semi naked sweaty bodies makes it difficult to stand... if you're the ladies involved that is... Guys watching probably wouldn't find it difficult to stand at all...

I do have to agree, women’s bodies are designed differently, the damage that can be done. It’s not something I like to watch anyway the whole battering each other for sport I don’t like

I just see it as boxing but less appealing because there's less strength and power but just as much skill. I'm not a boxing fan in general. I couldn't fight in any form to save my life but I love mma. Anyway women should box if they want. Katie Taylors Olympic gold was one of the best sporting moments for our country.

I can't speak from experience as a former boxer and some of the female boxers in this country would kill ya for saying that! They want to be treated as equals in the sport and over the last number of years have been making great ground in that area, such as the inclusion of women's boxing in the Olympics a few years back, and also I have sparred Katie myself and she battered me so she's well able to look after herself lol

I think it’s great

Why shouldn’t women participate

If it’s hard for you to watch you should turn over and watch X-Factor or Bake Off

I think if they are good enough and brave enough to do it for an audience then let them on

When Katie fights in Pairc Ui Chaoimh or the 3 Arena I’ll be there cheering her on

Same as. Cant wait till she fights on homeground.

Took part in a white collar boxing event years ago and loved every minute of it. And anyone that thinks it easy you are bloody wrong. The concentration on protecting urself and trying to hit ur opponent at the same is all consuming and ur constantly moving. Personally its one of the best things ive ever done.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen the appeal in men flailing the shit out of each other either.

I agree, but it is a sport and they enjoy it and get paid for it. Why not if that is what they what to do . Whether it is right or wrong it is their life to do as they choose with it. So you say "women boxing" so it is OK for men then ?!

Boxing is a barbaric sport for men or women

I buried a friend my age who died of brain damage sustained during his youth boxing

All Katie done was inspire other young kids to take it up and damage their brains

What a rediculous statement. There’s plenty of dangers in any sport look at the amount of healthy people that die running long distances.

Boxing is by far the best sport that any child can partake in purely for the discipline and dedication that it can give a child.

I'd tell you too educate yourself about CTE but you just compared boxing to long distance running so I'll leave it there

It happens in soccer, rugby basketball and American football not that the last one concerns us much. Brain injuries happen in alot of our favourite sports not just boxing. It should be up to the person themselves they wanna box regardless of gender. I wouldn't box because I'd never win, I try keep odds on my side haha.

I know a lot of boxers who don’t have discipline they use their fists when they want too!

For me I think it’s a horrible sport and not one I would like my son to go into, his father would disagree and wants him in now at 6. I’ve said no way. I don’t agree with any sport that injures the brain, sport should be fun not battering each other. I’ve personally seen the after effects of a serious brain injury and it is horrible

I'm not talking about unintentional injuries that can happen in any sport or in life

In boxing and combat sports the whole objective is to intentionally hit in the head.

They're unintentional yet extremely common. Two of my old soccer team mates were good in the air, one was a striker and was expected to head the ball 20odd times a game. He said he'd have a migraine after every game. The other lad wasn't as tall but had the exact same complaint after every game about headaches.

Most sports can be dangerous. Theres been some horrible injuries in rugby, should we ban that as well?

Again I say there is a big difference between unintentional injuries and intentional

The I object of boxing is to punch the head and body and the effect of those head punches, with or without headgear causes the brain to rattle in the skull resulting in brain damage

--------------------------

To me, "a fighter is a fighter" so if the burning desire is inside you to pursue a combat sports, it's inside you whether you're Katie Taylor, Anthony Joshua or Floyd Mayweather...

Professional female boxers tend to fight with 8 to 10 oz gloves for 2 minute rounds compared to female MMA fighters who fight with 4oz gloves over 5 minute rounds and you'll realise there's more brutal sports than boxing (also there's less knockouts in women's pro boxing)

Personally, am a big Katie fan and like seeing a woman like Katie Taylor who can handle herself and also be a lady outside the ring
