Caring for wildlife?? That's a bit of a stretch. Farmers:

Want a cull on badgers

Introduced mixi to kill off rabbits

Poisoned/shot Eagles that have been reintroduced

Run off from farms has been responsible for 100s of fish kills

This list is endless of way farmers are trying to or have ruined wildlife.

You shouldn't make assumptions. I good few of my family are farmers. But that's not the point the poster said farmers care for wildlife which I said was a bit of a stretch and I still stand by my points made.

Badger cull was lobbied by farmers

Eagles are a protected species

Myxomatosis was introduced by farmers to try and cull rabbits

Run off is far from bull shite the department of agriculture warns farmers about slurry run off every year

Galway

I think a small number of intensive farmers create a bad reputation for the rest of us. Farmers now have to jump through hoops to protect wildlife and habit in certain areas. Cant spread slurry at certain times of the year, keep buffer zones from water courses ect.....

If farmers didnt look after the land the countryside would be overgrown and the price of food would go through the roof

Yes slurry can run off yes eagles do get poisoned yes traffic gets held up but not all farmers are responsible. As not all towns people are responsible for the thousands of sheep killed by family pets sheep and cattle slaughtered in fields and hides left hanging over fences but it all happens.

Now come on in all honesty what do we need farmers for.Sure we can get everything we want in the supermarket.

Badgers carry and spread TB which they pass on to cattle which in turn spreads and can affect humans if they eat infected meat.

Large amounts of rabbits destroy grain crops which affects both production and other wildlife.

Breach of slurry regulations will result in big fines and loss of farm grants. So it is well controlled nowadays.

The only eagles we've ever heard of around my area are the band and we've never seen them....oh maybe they were shot or poisoned

I think swinging wide is what caused that fatal accident down in cork..never swing wide on a bend unless you have a lad to go warn traffic to slow down
