I know people say that Coronation Street etc are not real, and, yes,some storylines are far fetched BUT depression and suicide are very real.

Coronation Street have highlighted something extremely important tonight, and I hope it reiterates the fact that you NEVER truly know how someone is feeling inside or what they're dealing with. Shayne Ward has played his part brilliantly, and his final episode tonight has been an eye opener ??

It’s very poingnant for me as it’s just a fortnight to the year from I came within literal minutes of not being here for the same reason.

Dont watch corrie but caught end of it tonight. Was in tears. The scene where he in pub with all the noise etc family around him and he not there as such. Hopefully it will help people and show its ok to ask for help. Xx

Don't watch Corrie....but your post is so perfect on many levels . Suicide has touched my heart over the years and quite recently too .... its good to talk . It's better to be there to listen .

Yes very true I know all too well about these issues nice of Corrie to do storyline about it I'm looking forward to aftermath of it and how it's going to effect his family going forward be interesting how they deal with that .

Don't watch it regularly so wouldn't know the current storyline

However I'm a huge advocate of promoting mental health information and letting people know that there's help available and it's OK to not be Ok

I think this has highlited so many different aspects of suicide.

First of all its not always the people you think have "problems". Some people "have it all" as some might say but unfortunatly its not about that.

Also for men talking is not always as easy as for women.

Sometimes you cant explain it with words. You just feel like everything is weighing on your shoulders, you feel anxious and you dont know why. It can be so hard to go to someone and say "i am not ok" because the first question they ask is "why" or "whats wrong" and you cant explain it.

So yes please talk. Talk to someone, anyone. Whether its a friend, a family member, a doctor, a helpline or a complete stranger. If at that moment if feels right just talk.

But also i will say, ask the question. If you notice behavioural changes in someone or if something doesnt feel right ask the question. Are you ok? Do you need someone to talk to? You never know, you might just save someone.

As someone who for many monthd could never see the next morning coming from the literal and figurive darkness of the night a lot of this resonated with me.

On countless occasions I found myself on the edge teetering and to be honest don't know how I am still here to this day .

In a different headspace now but watching this reminds me so vividly of the silent pain I once knew and the crippling struggle within when jt takes hold.

People look after themselves physically which is fantadtic but often don't pay attention to their own emotional well being. Wash their hair.. brush their teeth.. eat 5 fruit and veg a day.. hit the gym for an hr etc but often don't face up to their struggles and in turn they can seem insurmountable as tike goes by.

I think the show addressed it quite well to be fair. I had tears streaming down my face due to ny own exoerience with the topic. The monologue at the end by Gail Platt was a very accurate assessment of a lot of todays societal elements.

Hopefully it raises the consciousness level of the struggle to those who watched it this evening. I will watch as the story unfolds to see where it goes.

Hoping anybody reading this with similar issues can find the strength to seek the help they deserve. A tough watch but certainly worth it.
