New York is very safe these days, same risks as any big city.

Hate to sound like a trip advisor post but where to stay depends alot on budget and what you want to do.

All the main tourist attractions are in manhattan so that would be the best area to stay in. But its alot cheaper to stay in another borough and take public transport in.

I stayed at The Plaza which is just near Central Park and 5th avenue!

It's a great hotel!

Make sure you do top of the rock and the Central Park movie tour.

Also had dinner in a few nice places.

3 days of great fun!

Wear good shoes! You'll do a lot of walking. Visit Central Park, 5th Avenue. Take Staten Island ferry to see Statue of Liberty, don't pay the mad prices to go on the island and go up it, unless you had relatives that went through Ellis Island.

Beware that just doing normal stuff in New York requires a budget of $100 per day. Money just seems to vanish!

If you want to do Empire State, get there at 8am as the queue is ridiculous.

Personally, 3 days was enough.

Can't advise you on that I'm afraid but what I would say is to look up the listings for the off Broadway shows. They can often be excellent but look out for famous movie actors in them and you have a good chance of seeing something decent, with excellent performance, for a bit less, before it becomes known

Things to do in NYC...

Walk the brroklyn bridge go to Dumbo in Brooklyn. Head to waterfront park and take in the best view of New York.

Empire state or top of the rock should both be done at night. Experience is better and queue is shorter.

Accomodation depends on budget. Plenty of air b'n'b if you are open to it.

Nice hotels all over NYC. For location try stay central avenues between 6th and 8th av between 34th and 50th st for most accessible hotels.by subways and to get up and down the city.

SoHo is the best shooping area in NYC.From Broadway and Canal st to Broadway and houston has some great high st stuff. Spring st.. prince st and other connecting streets have some wonderful boutiques and beautiful cobbled streets .

Outlet centers dont have the bargains they once had or ar at least as much of a discount so if only there for a few days I wouldnt bother with one.

Go to see a production on Broadway. You won't regret it. Don't spend too much tine in times sq. Get exploring

Chelsea... the west village.. williamsburg in Brooklyn.. walk the high line. An old rail track turned into a pedesrrian park above the roads of Manhattan.

If finances allow... try eat ib some decent restaurants. There are some glorious spors in nyc. No idea of your palette so I wouldn't rcommend. The natural history museum is epic. The new york library is fantastic. The guggenheim. The lincoln center. Bryant park often hosts free concerts so checkit out whilst there to see if anything on.

Have a nose around macys just to see it. Pop down around the financial district to see the new world trade center (very close to brooklyn bridge).

As above central park is wonderful. Allow a couple of hours to properly enjoy it place is huge and well worth taking a tour to get the history of the place.

Can NYC be enjoyed in 3 days ? Yes.

Can it be explored properly in 3 days. Not a hope .

Bring comfortable shoes. You will cover miles and miles every day bur so worth it !

Washington sq park is another lovely spot down by NYU... lots of street performers and entertainment going on there.

Manhattan js very safe considering it's reputation it once had for street crime and so forth.

If you book it.. research the shit out of it before you go as time can run away very fast in New York and it is easy for time to just blitz past.

Any questions give me a shout.

I booked an upper West side apartment with a balcony overlooking central park last August. worked out about the same as a basic enough hotel but with vastly more comfort. suggest you try airbnb but watch for extras like cleaning. if you need more than one room it's much better value

the Oculus transportation centre beside the 9/11 is breathtakingly beautiful. it shows human creative ability in a spectacular way. buy a coffee sit and be prepared to be awe struck

The occulus is phenomenal to be fair ! Feels like something from the future ! As you said.. have a coffee and just people watch ! For the op.. Century 21 a popular discount store is just across from the occulus/world trade. Very close also to Brooklyn bridge/wall st/battery/park/south street seaport

San Fran is gorgeous. Just keeo away from the tenderloin area. There is a very high homeless rate in San Fran and many of them gather in that disctrict with a fair bit of crime there too. In general though San Fran is lovely. Get out to Sausalito too. Beautiful area. Alacatraz is fab aswell !

I had a meet with a lady on fab who was in New York about 2 years ago. The clubs are more under ground and it's all private members and hush hush. Hence you really do have to know someone. I was lucky enough to attend and it quite the experience

In my head I'm a local ! In reality I'm just an enthusiastic who feels at home when I visit ! I forgot to mention that the red bus hop on hop off tours are also worth doing. They are a great way to do a whistle stop photo op tour to see many of the landmarks in the city
