"What's your thinking ????

"

I'm presuming you are referring to is it an actual illness or a term used to diagnose those with inexplicable pain.

My mother has been diagnosed with it for several years. Jury is out for me, I think it's a cop out

There are fourteen individual markers for fibromyalgia more commonly known as acute arthritis affecting major areas of the body . This is a debilitating condition which can render a person confined to bed the actual cause is unknown , it can happen to anyone at any age and flare ups cause swelling in joints and pain , this condition can be managed by strong non steroidal medication , but success varies . See fibroireland.com for help and support . To the person who thinks it’s a cop out , I sincerely. Hope it never affects you , misinformation is not helpful , people with eleven out of fourteen markers are entitled to disability and a blue parking badge .

Friends wife was diagnosed with it several years ago. She is now confined to a wheelchair and has just lost their home because she cant eork. She was a nurse and a very driven woman, i have her seen break down because she cant pick up her own infant child. To say its a cop out shows a lack of understanding.

Im sure some take the p*#s but its not much different than telling someone with a mental health issuse that the don't look sick or you just dont understand the illness

What I meant is that I think it is a label used when they cannot diagnose an illness. It's supposedly hereditary so I have researched it thoroughly

Never come across it. Is it a neurological disease? I know people with MS and have lost someone due to MND so if its something similar than my heart truly goes out to any suffers

With due respect I think if you had actually researched it well you would not be inclined to say you think it’s a cop out . People with this condition are fed up to the back teeth of misinformed people insinuating it’s all put on , just look at the above story , ! Do you honestly think that woman has ended up in a wheelchair for attention ?

I think Geordie was saying that people may have other illnesses and this can often be misdiagnosed. She just convayed and opinion, there's no need for arguing

I'm very sorry it does sound rather debilating, as mentioned I know and have known suffers of neurological diseases and its hard, I watched someone go from a marathon runner to being wild chair confined and sadly passing away in the space of 6 months from motor neuron

Genuinely i think its becoming a little more understood and to be honest mainstream.

My dear old mother has been dealing with it for 20 years... when she was first diagnosed she was delighted to get a diagnosis but unfortunately that delight turned to frustration quickly due to the lack of knowledge and treatment options amongst the medical profession . Happily its much better understood now but still difficult to treat. Morphine seems to be the only thing that works for my mother now.

Life can be tough folks.... FAB while you can !

A town near you

My sister n law has it, though it seems to flare up or trouble her when he wants to go somewhere or do something ie stag do etc or even come home on holiday on his own for a day or two. I dared to mention how she seems ok when ever a girls weekend away comes up or a girly night out and was slapped down with all the rhetoric.

Other than that im sure lots of people genuinely have the condition

I've read the grey book on it myself a couple of times, as like that my ex's sister was diagnosed with it. Unfortunately she also has a lot of personality disorder traits and tried to convince a third sister she was trying to control that she also had it...hence why I researched it.

It does stack up that it's a genuine condition by a lot of genuine people, and my heart goes out to them. The problem is it can be diagnosed without all or any of the physical symptoms being present at the time of testing, as for a lot of genuine sufferers they may not be exhibiting a flare up during an examination.

I was sceptical myself about the condition before I researched it and now I'm not....but unfortunately I am sceptical about a minority of people with a life long history of playing the victim who can research this cruel condition and then convince others they're suffering from it for their own manipulative ends.

I can understand why those of you who genuinely are afflicted are frustrated by people who are sceptical, but if you dig a little deeper you may find that they have been influenced by the frauds they may know who claim to have it. Hopefully medical testing and treatment will very soon improve and the genuine sufferers will not be discredited any longer by the callous self serving pretense of a few chameleons.
