If you go to Vatican don't take group tour, go alone. Group tour is very rushed and you miss lots. If your wondering what anything is just wait a few moments until tour group comes along and listen in.

Definitely go see the colesseum. Buy the combo with the red bus tour and also when you need to eat go to la travestere area, very nice buzzy area, cobblestones lots of good restaurants and well European bars. Good value there.

Firstly. Bring a pair of very confortable shoes. Rome is all walking and lots of it. Trevi fountain in the evening. Beautiful lit up. The Vatican is a must. I would disagree with one of the previous fabbers about the group tours. I would advise joining a tour. Most hotels will be able to book you on one. Reason i suggest this...the queues for non groups in massive. When i was there, it stretched about a mile around the walls and about 4/5deep. The group tours have a different entrance and there is no waiting. Then once you are in, go at your own pace. So much to see though. Spanish steps are cool during the daytime sunshine. I would also recommend getting a hot chocolate from one of the numerous cafe's. Hands down the beat hot chocolate i have ever had. Was literally like drinking melted chocolate. Yum wouldn't be in it! Have a great time. Beautiful city. Enjoy your trip.

Do atleast one tour guide. You'll hear the mythology and history of the place or thing you are seeing. Just going and looking blankly at something you don't really know about isn't the same. There's fresh drinkable running water taps all over Rome too so if you buy a bottle of water hold onto the bottle, there's a fuck tonne of walking so you'll need it.

If you go to visit the colosseum queue for your ticket in the much smaller queue for the Roman forum across from it . The ticket covers both sites and is valid for 2 consecutive days for 1 entrance to the colosseum and 1 entrance to the roman forum/palatine hill. Once you have your ticket you can go straight into the colosseum skipping the queue.

If you have time go to the Vatican but buy the tickets on line and pay the extra for skipping the queue it is worth it .

Another must see is the Pantheon it’s free and an architectural master piece.

Use the trains they are really cheap fast and easy to get to any where you are going from the stations . Stay off the buses they are a nightmare.

Enjoy Roman it’s amazing and be sure to treat yourself to a gelato from Giolitti it’s the best in Rome .

..

..loads of places to see off the beaten track

catttacones are exciting if your not claustrophobic and a no go on wet weather

Less you wanta end up in a watery grave.

Most of the erotic nigh life can be found on the Tangenziale sus

Along with great wine& PIZZA bar,of course you have to taxi it there I don't think the red line metro goes that far.

Big avoid is the restaurants at the btm

Of the spa...h steps

Rip off.

I agree, traffic lights are meaningless to both pedestrians and drivers
