Dating apps trouble

Hey just after some advice if anyone ever been in a similar position etc.

So I was chatting to what I thought was a 24 year old girl on another dating app. We swapped pics etc.

They asked to meet and for my Facebook. Stupidly I gave it as it seemed ok.

Then suddenly chat turned on its head and person was claiming to be a man and would post my pics on facebook and to my friends if I didn't transfer money.

I have since deactivated my Facebook and dating app.

Has anything like this happened anyone on here? Was it just a chancer and blew over?

Any advice appreciated, thanks

Contact the police, it’s embarrassing but they specialise in this

that’s called black mailing , go and see the gardai . Don’t worry to much about that he posts anything . in fact if he does he woukd reveal himself and becomes easier to catch .

Thanks folks apprec the replies.

Phoned the police earlier and meeting them. Have screenshot the complete chat including the bank details they gave. These may be fake but hopefully something to work off.

Just freaked me out the fact they saved a photo of my Facebook which has photos of my kids etc.

This actually happened to me on another site. I actually just called there bluff, deleted anyway for contact/find any of my friends and left it at that! Some wind up merchants out there! None of my photos had my face so I could deny if need be! Ya never know who you are talked to at the end of the day!

Fucking hell! That sucks man! I've been on and off them for years, never had that situation though. I wouldn't let it put you off, just an unlucky encounter.

I know of someone it happened to. You need to lock down your facebook, make it so you need to approve anything you're tagged in before anyone else sees it. Make your friends list visible only to you. And don't add random people. Then make your pics and posts for friends only to see.

And remember the old saying, if something looks too good to be true, it most likely is.

This actually happened to me.. we did Skype for awhile. She recorded what I did, and threatened to add all of my friends on Facebook if I didn't give money.. not sure how she got my second name but did...and sadly sent a video to about 100 friends and family!!...

Guess the lesson is, be extra careful with 2nd names and especially Facebook!!.

If u give out your phone number and it is connected to your Facebook account it comes up on Facebook people you might know that’s how people get your name and pics

Omg that is awful! To be honest I think the lesson is more about what you do on cam with internet strangers who claim to be your friend. Look at the number of suicides of young people who have sent images or video clips only to be extorted with them...so scary

Thanks everyone for your input and advice.

It's awful that there are so many people out there who will do this for a gain.

Was in touch with cops and they are taking this very seriously. Have phoned me twice since this evening making sure I felt all right and that I had company. Wouldn't even wait til Monday for me to come in, called me in tomorrow straight away.

I know of an 18 year old, 10 mins from where I live. He took his own life unfortunatelyfrom dealing with this alone. These cowards that cause this need stopped.

Disgraceful to see this happening. Hearing it too much lately, people had sad lives to be even thinking of tryin to ruin others lives

Good for u contacting the police and posting their response here showing the proactive view they take of situations like this

Just because ur on a dating or adult site doesn't mean u forgo ur rights and the police/garda take a dim view of this type of crime

Secrecy is the weapon of choice of these people (can't post the world black mail here funnily enough) they expect u will not tell anybody that they cam make a fast buck,

Again well done OP and please post the outline of how the police deal with this going forward, for no other reason than to let others know there is help out there no need to suffer in silence
